Can some of you football savvy give me a breakdown on what you feel our projected starting D might look like with 

incoming recruits and those committed at this time?  I would be interested to see the lineup projections. GMG

My take:

DL:  English, Hamilton and Young

LB: Garner, Ejiya and Fulp

DB/LB: Preston/Davis

DB: Hall, Brooks, Muhammed and Sanders

If he stuck, I would rather see him start over Garner.

Gross, full needs to be a player for us immediately. I'd replace Garner before I tried to replace any other LB.  well besides McDonald that was about the worst MLB I've seen in a hot minute.  Explains JUCO route staff has gone may as well say F it and get HS guys who are here for 4/5 years.   It's a tough one to call for sure.  Glad I'm not being paid to recruit 18-20 year olds and develop them.

Replace Garner with JoJo and I like your lineup.

You're wanting to replace a MLB with a hybrid DE/OLB type of guy?    I like JoJo where he's at.   

If you thought Garner was too slow to the ball as a Mike, you really wouldn't like JoJo as a Mike.

Garner is a player.   Most defenses knew that, hence, when our 3-man front was not demanding double-teams like they needed to, a Guard/Center would release upfield and engage him immediately.  

If English is who we hope he is, watch Garner turn into an all-conference type of player next season.

I'm not saying swap position for position. I'm saying have JoJo, Fulp, and Ejiya as your three LB's. Keep JoJo where he's at, Ejiya at Mike, and Fulp as your Will/Sam(Whatever that linebacker is considered in this defense)

Garner fell off hard. To me, he's another Fred Scott at best.

I don't think Ejiya is a MLB either, and we don't know what we have in Fulp yet... hence hitting the JUCOs for LB help.
I know Garner gets a lot of heat on here, and he could certainly work on shedding blocks, but I think he'll do much better lining up behind English & Young instead of just Young.

      MGN: Post game recap

      Really they didn’t even try. The stats back this up. Our RBs had 12 carries for 53 yards. That’s a respectable 4.4 yards per carry. Not amazing but solid enough to take a little pressure off the passing game. By comparison, TxSt averaged 4.6 but they ended up with over 200 yards because they stuck with the run. The running game didn’t struggle. Morris gave up on it before it could struggle because he doesn’t value the run game. Or he was so intimidated by a SunBelt team that he panicked?

      We picked the wrong quarterback

      The problem wasn’t the QB but rather the game plan. Or more specifically the head coach. I still don’t understand why you build your game plan around a rookie walk-on qb. They barely even tried to run the ball. The stat sheet shows 25 rushing attempts but around 6-7 of those were passing plays when the qb scrambled due to the breakdown of the pass blocking or that abortion of a WR pass with Young. Our RBs had 12 carries. Twelve. Stupid.

      MGN: Post game recap

      Run game definitely struggled. Observation from a lowly fan was the center's snaps were not crisp. There was the bad snap that hit the turf that Mestemaker recovered but there were several others that weren't on target that visibly caused timing to be off. Couple that with the DL regularly being in our backfield right after the snap and it's hard to run. I may be mixing games but I think even remember a TX State player practically meeting our RB at a hand-off. Mestemaker pulled it back and got taken down by a few defenders but there was just no room to get things going on the ground.

      Untjim: Texas/Oklahoma doesn't produce great linemen anymore so we can't have great defenses. Me: how does UTSA and Texas State do it? Rick: defense Untjim: he doesn't want to hear it Hear what? Y'all are simultaneously saying the state doesn't produce great linemen which is necessary for a good defense but then say other G5 teams in our same state with our same pool of players are succeeding because of defense. Again, if they can do it why can't we? What's their excuse?
