From Horns 247 article:

We're hearing SMU’s Chad Morris is headed to Arkansas to replace Bret Bielemaand multiple well-connected sources at SMU have told Horns247 that Texas defensive coordinator Todd Orlando is under consideration to replace Morris.

Along with Orlando, SMU interim head coach Jeff Traylor, who was an assistant at Texas under Charlie Strong for two seasons (2015, 2016), North Texas head coach Seth Littrell, UTSA head coach Frank Wilson and former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin are among the possible replacements to fill the vacancy, sources said.

If Coach Lit took the SMOO job he would be a back stabbing piece of shit, and guess what? He is not any of those things. Coach seems like a great guy who would never consider this move. Now if he got offered a job at a P5 school, I could see that maybe happening. However, he has it pretty sweet now.

Sumlin has proved his self as a winning coach in the SEC... Not sure he would go to SMOO. Now if he has no other offers he might go for it. They could pay for him for sure.

I don't know what SMU would pay Littrel but if they are doubling his salary he certainly would be gone.  He would be crazy not to.   Like it or not, its perceived as a step up (American), and the prior coach just got hired to the SEC.

In summary, way more money to go to a coaching job that has been proven as a possible channel to P5 football and SEC. Pretty sure he would say yes to that.

Chad Morris just proved that you don't really have to win at SMU to get a big job.....

For whatever that's worth...

how did that work out for the previous 1..2..3..4...5..etc. coaches SMU has had?  Name the last head coach (beside Morris) at SMU that improved his gig upon leaving?

If he took the job, it would be because he is very confident in his ability/system & would feel that getting SMU into the upper echelon of G5 football would be easier than getting UNT into the upper echelon of G5 football.  And, oh by the way, they'd pay him 2X as much to do it.

...not because he is whatever you said.

Well June Jones went straight to sitting on a beach in Hawaii so thats definitely a step up - but probably not what you meant.  Then he coached some Hawaii HS football and now AD for a HS in Hawaii.  All still a step up :)

Hmmm making 1 million at UNT to making 2 million at SMU with quick ability to maybe make 4 million. Ya SL would be a dumbass if he left right?

UNT could get him close enough to $2 Million to make him stay, plus he already has 2 years of his rebuild done. A conference championship next year or double digit wins would be enough for him to get $4 Million offers from P5 schools. He will be the next Scott Frost next season if he does that. 1-11 to back to back division titles and maybe more.

WAYYYY more competition in the AAC with Houston, Memphis, USF, UCF, and Navy all being good and in his way. Would take him 2-3 years to get SMU lined up to beat those schools.
