Most of the places bantered about on here are in the French Quarter, or Business District (right next to the quarter), or are along Magazine St in the crescent. 

If you’re staying in the French Quarter or Business district, everything is within walking distance if you’re even barely fit.

If any of the places along Magazine sounds good, ride on the St Charles Trolley, enjoy the mansions along the way, then hop off @ the cross street & walk down to your destination on Magazine.

You can definitely get by without a car there.

Pro Tip: Carbroiled Oysters.

It's getting towards the end of the season, but there's and R in December so it's still ok.

If this your first visit: Go stand in line at ACME.  (In FQ on Iberville in-between Royal & Bourbon.)

For seasons travelers: Dragos at the Hilton or Felix's across the street from ACME.

Mothers is good. Used to be my favorite.  But the best poboy is at Parkway. Try the surf and turf. A little outside the Quarter so take an Uber. It's worth it

For breakfast, try the Camellia Grill.  If you have time, take the trolley past Tulane to the original location on Carrollton. If not, The Grill in the Quarter works.  Get the Manhattan Omelette or the Chefs Special Omelette.

And agreed to everyone who said the WWII museum. I think it may be the biggest must do in NO.   Plan on taking at least 1/2 day, but I could spend a whole week there

Let's talk Fried Chicken.

Dooky Chase and Willie Mae's are considered the gold standard in New Orleans.  Do not attempt to walk from the FQ to these restaurants, its still a rough part of town.  Willie Mae's opened an uptown location on the St. Charles Street Car line (it's a street car not trolley).

In the FQ there is Fiorella's & Coop's both on Decatur past Jackson's Square.  Fiorella's is amazing, but they fix it on the spot, so be prepared to wait.  Coop's taste plate is awesome and comes with rabbit gumbo.

There is also no shame in hitting up the Popeye's on Canal Street.

I love Port of Call’s burger. But if you’re at Port of Call you have to get a monsoon (the adult version of a hurricane), which might kill you.

I’m a big fan of the burgers at Yo Mamas on St. Peter’s.

From the little I remember from my trip, a lot of places on Bourbon street, not in the bars, street kiosks, had $2-$3 Abita Amber, which is great for the price.  Recommended.  And for those beer nerds on this board, I like Abita's Purple Haze, and it should be plentiful in NO.   Wish I could go, but too many family obligations that weekend.

In the same vein as The Old Coffee Pot, try Mena's Palace for breakfast or lunch.  I don't remember it being Palace before the remodel, but it remains a diner to me. Everyone that works at Mena's has been there a long time. Food reasonably priced and it is one block off Canal in the FQ, behind the Marriott.

Lots of gumbo choices in New Orleans but The Redfish Grill (one of handful of reasons to go to Bourbon Street) is good. Eat at the bar on a white table cloth and enjoy a beverage and the bartender banter.

Then walk across the street to The Bourbon House. I prefer Scotch but this place has, appropriately, an extensive bourbon offering.

All three of these are within a five iron shot of each other...pretty good way to spend the day (if your not going to the WWII museum).

During this time of year a lot of the restaurants do reveillon dinners. My wife and I go to New Orleans around Christmas every year and have tried a few of them, all of them have been great, galatoire's is probably out favorite . If you are traveling with family, a fun thing to do is go see the Christmas lights at City Park.

And I think someone already said it, but if you have a car, use the casino to park, it's an easy walk if staying in the quarter.

Looking forward to seeing all the Mean Green faithful in New Orleans.

Love the streetcar ride to Camellia Grill though it tends to be more of a lunch spot for me or breakfast at lunch time :)

We end up going to Port of Call nearly every trip. Great burger no fries you get a baked potato. We like to go for a late lunch and get a punch to go and then walk back to the Quarter, not a walk I'd suggest at night for the first few blocks.

If you want something to eat after a hard night in the Quarter, mosey on over to Daisy Dukes to eat, breakfast and everything else 24/7

Café Fleur De Lis may be the best breakfast around. Go the day you want a bloody mary with breakfast. Great for other meals but they knock it out of the park at breakfast.

Also endorse Central for muffalettas.

Not a Mother's fan. It's good just not on my must list.

Felix's is across the street basically from Acme. Love both but tend to go to Felix's more often because when it is my wife and I go we can usually get a seat at the bar quicker and watch the guys shuck oysters. If you eat raw oysters and are tipping the guys well you probably will get a bakers dozen oysters.
