Since the other thread got locked...

 

As I wake up this morning preparing to watch our Mean Green fight for the C-USA Conference Championship, I can not believe our big topic is arguing over the bowl destination of our team. Once again we are a fractured fan base. What a terrible way to finish a great season.

This is a self inflected wound by our leadership. Someone, possibly several within our university, seriously misread how this would play with a large segment of our fan base. We are obviously still Old Denton. If we were New Denton, this epic blunder (New Orleans Bowl vs. a Sun Belt team) wouldn't even be a possible scenario.

I just can't believe North Texas will accept an invitation to the NO Bowl on Dec. 16th, which is the same day as some North Texas graduation ceremonies, happening at 8am., 11am., 2pm., and 5pm.. Is Smatresk planning on skipping graduation?

No one on this board, or in our administration will ever convince me that the NO Bowl is the best we could do.

Hopefully, it is not too late to land in a better bowl.

I would give you a +1 for this as well, but, alas, I too have run out of votes after 5-7 minutes.  Doh!

Ha! I guess it kind of came out that way. But, to be totally honest, I don't care about my points. If I did, I wouldn't be ranting about this topic.

I know it is rubbing some old guard fans the wrong way. I know some just want those that think like me to fall in line and focus on supporting our team. But this isn't about supporting our team. When they kick the ball off in about 30 minutes we will all be supporting our team. This is about the direction of our program, and the standard we expect. The New Orleans Bowl vs. a Belt team, just doesn't meet my standard.

      +1. Or when we actually start winning bowl games. Some of y'all would be loving the Frisco bowl if we were winning big and attendance was filling it up. There's a bit of a chicken-egg argument here when it comes to winning and attendance. Just f'n go. I'm giving you 'til the count of 10 to get y'r ugly, yellow, no-good keester to the games.

      UNT Student-Athletes Boast Increased GSR Rate

      DENTON, Texas – Mean Green student-athletes recorded their ninth consecutive year with a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) above 82 or better with an 84 for the 2016-17 cohort, the NCAA announced Wednesday. Out of UNT’s 12 sport programs, 10 recorded impressive rates above 82. Seven programs improved or maintained their scores from the previous year including football, women’s basketball, soccer, softball, women’s tennis, women’s track and field/cross country along with swim and dive. Women’s basketball tied the program record with a 95. Additionally, football set a new program milestone with an 87. Women’s tennis maintained a perfect 100 for a record ninth year in a row. From the time GSR data collection began with the 1995-98 cohort, UNT has improved from a score of 59 to 84 (25-point increase). The GSR was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately measure the academic success of Division I student-athletes by better accounting for the many different academic paths followed by today's college students. The NCAA also released the most recent federal graduation rate data in conjunction with the GSR information. The GSR holds institutions accountable for transfer students, whereas the federal graduation rate does not. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees. The NCAA calculates the federal graduation rate for student-athletes because it is the only rate by which to compare student-athletes to the general student body.
