WBB NT beats SMU

In a very strange mid week game at 11:30

NT went to 5-1 over a very tall SMU team.  A lot of elementary students got to see a good basketball game.   NT in 47-41 grind them down kind of win.

SMU usually has a pretty good team.  Any idea if that is the case this year?  Mitchell may have put together a strong team this year, stronger than I thought.

I believe SMU was 3-4 coming into the game but I also didn't go over their schedule.

North Texas is pretty strong on defense. Not including today's game, North Texas has forced 109 turnovers and has scored 61 points off turnovers. They've also allowed 47.2 PPG while scoring 63.4. Their sole loss was a 1 point defeat to Kansas State.

On one rating system (Bennett) SMU is ranked 116 and NT 155.

So it definitely was a good win.

Its a good thing SMU had a bad stretch of shooting free throws, because the refs called about 10 fouls on us in the 3rd quarter and put SMU on the line a bunch.

SMU only fouled twice in the 3rd quarter and one of them was a charge.  With even close officiating this game would have been a blowout.

One point loss to Kansas State had some really bad calls from the refs, too.  In fact, I think the refs caused us to lose by one.  Jalie keeps on keepin on...I like that.

Off the subject but does anyone know the status of Justis Szczepanski.  NT could really use another front court player.

Love seeing them off to a good start!  Anytime we beat SMU it's good.

I was told by a coach today that she is still battling knee issues.

She was not on bench today. Probably in class.
