It isn't irrelevant. Splitting more than a million is better than splitting 400-500k. This conference needs all the money it can get.

I think he means it would be irrelevant if both of those bowls were filled by a C-USA team...  Which, the HoD Bowl won't be unless it's by us.
So yeah, any which way it happens, C-USA is getting the payout for the N.O. Bowl since it's contracted to be filled by a C-USA team, and we have plenty of eligible teams to put there.

If C-USA wants the payout for the HoD Bowl, UNT needs to win this weekend and get placed there.
Otherwise, I'm afraid we're going to ABQ for a matchup with SDSU or FresnoSt.
HoD would love to have a UCLA/Tech matchup, and the Independence Bowl is looking like the landing spot for FSU... which would have FAU drooling to get there.

Even if we lose to FAU in the championship game that won't necessarily mean that the Independence Bowl will take FAU.  The Bowl is responsible for the payout which means selling tickets so that means that they'll have a huge voice in the selection.  If they believe that we can bring 20,000 vs. FAU's 1,000 that would weigh heavily in their decision.  Remember, the Independence Bowl is not contracted to CUSA.  As Wren said, there are multiple voices in the decision of who plays where.

Very true.
I'm just certain FAU would lobby to get there (as would C-USA) as this would be a prime matchup for them to gain a serious bump in recruiting & prestige in the state of FL.   A disinterested FSU squad would likely allow Singletary (C-USA's golden boy) to run all over them.

No way they can get this game to Florida at Gasparilla via trade? Keep the Florida Schools in Florida and we get an AAC team in Shreveport, but a quality AAC team? Heck even a residual P5 team. I love the date for the bowl and that it is a "travel bowl" against a potentially good opponent.

A noon kickoff the Wednesday after Christmas is not ideal for the majority of fans who will be back at work. It would be hard for some fans to even watch on TV.

The Independence Bowl would throw a tirade if they lost both of their contracted conference tie-ins (ACC/SEC) for a C-USA/AAC matchup.

New Mexico, the Independence Bowl or HOD would be fine with me. And I would attend the NO Bowl as well.

I care more about the opponent than the bowl.  This has been too good of a year to end it playing a Belt team.

There is has been a lot of the use of the word "I" in these bowl threads.

We get some actual insight from the AD about the bowl selection process and the fanboys on this forum keep howling about their personal preferences based on what's best for them, and not the program.

With that being said, we should go to the New Mexico Bowl because I can stay at my abuela's house because I like her enchiladas the best.  Grandma's home cooking, that's what this bowl should be about.

They are probably going to throw a tirade.  Ironically, the ACC and SEC are the only two conferences with enough qualified teams to cover their bowl commitments but there are six large payout bowls that are at-large.  What do you want to bet that at least two of the six are filled by the ACC and SEC which would leave them short of fulfilling their obligations?

By the way, there will be three teams that have six wins that won't have a place to play (assuming that Florida State and New Mexico State win this week).  There will be 81 teams with six wins and only 78 bowl/playoff spots.

A magical cherry on top of this season would be if nutsack were one of these three.
