For the first time since 2008, Florida Atlantic is preparing for postseason play.

Though FAU (9-3, 8-0) clinched bowl eligibility on Nov. 3 and a spot in the Conference USA championship game earlier this month, the Owls are now officially getting ready for their first postseason game since a 24-21 win in Detroit over Central Michigan on Dec. 26, 2008 in the Motor City Bowl. FAU completed the fourth 8-0 season in C-USA history with last Saturday’s 31-12 win over Charlotte.

Saturday’s C-USA title game pits FAU against North Texas (9-3, 7-1), a team the Owls beat 69-31 on Oct. 21.

“I feel like we’ve done a lot, we’ve accomplished a lot,” FAU linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair said. “We’re not where we want to be, but looking back, we’ve done a lot of progress in the summer and even in December when the coaches first got here.”

As the Sun Belt conference — FAU’s home from 2004-12 — does not have a championship game, the Owls will be playing in their first FBS title game. Here are some of the key details FAU fans need to know prior to Saturday’s C-USA title game.

So "IF" FAU win this Saturday, they could "pick" the HOD bowl game?

No, they can't "pick" the HOD game because it isn't a CUSA tie in this year.  Doesn't mean they can't ask the league to try and get them in.

However, it looks more and more likely that HOD is going to be able to swap and get a P5/P5 matchup, still not certain however.

Don't worry, if we win, we probably will not be picking the HOD bowl.  St. Petersburg may be a top choice due to the alumni cluster in the area.  But a P5 opponent may be the top choice, Independence Bowl.

Upon further review, the bowl people, especially when it comes to p5's try to match bowls with who they think will travel the most fans to a regional bowl game.

Of late, we bring more Mean Green fans to the HOD Bowl at the Cotton Bowl Stadium than we (presently) do at Apogee.  When our AD finds the formula to get our bowl fans up to Apogee is when that stadium's expansion plans immediately goes to the top of the Mean Green Village construction list.

➡️ UNT has never had the old "SWC private schools luxury" of having 10K-15K traveling fans come to our campus stadia, but we will soon see how that worked for those schools when Texas Tech comes to Apogee in a few yrs.  That would be the time when a (minimum) 40K seat Apogee will have come in handy.

💰💰💰There will be record-breaking gate receipts when the Red Raiders invade Apogee in a few.

👨‍👨‍👧 Our young gun alums will see such a day in their future while the rest of us are, uh, pushing up 💐..... tulips? 😳

GMG!

WAIT!......Where's the reminder of FAU's last three season records of 3-9 in this article?

Where is a mention that FAU hopes to have some fans at this game with a slap-to-the-face reminder of their low average attendance?

And where in god's name is the reminder how lucky FAU will be to still have Lane Kiffin coaching come bowl time because afterall, it's FAU, who couldn't possibly deserve or afford to keep P5 suitors at bay?

This reporter must be some amateur?  He just doesn't get it.  What a cull.
