Noticed HP was playing right now and it prompted me to look up John Stephen’s recruiting page. No offers? I know he’s a small QB but he’s been lighting it up this year. 

I know we already have more than enough QB commits and the Jones’ have deep Arkansas roots, but I wouldn’t be opposed to trying to get the kid on campus. If nothing else, a nice tie in to the Jones’ as future donors

We don’t need to offer a scholarship to a dude based on ‘hope’ that a financial windfall comes.

If you haven’t been paying attention, Jerry doesn’t just hand out money.  This dude would have to start rather quickly in order to have any possibility of Jerry’s $$.

No...nope...uh uh. 

 

Don’t need that circus or the calls to let his start because grandpa wants to see him play locally.  

I’d rather give out schollys to kids who deserve them based on talent and not their surname

He's going to PWO anywhere he wants. Even if he was a legit 5 star QB, the Jones will easily pay his way because it would mean more talent on scholarship at another position. Probably for his best WR from his HS. Anything to keep the Jones happy.

Uh....You offer this kid if there is even a smidgen of interest. See what Jerry has done for U of Arkansas? This kid is in line to inherit the Dallas Cowboys. We want his alum status to be UNT.

this kid can't play here.  give him a PWO sure, but do not waste a scholarship.

We are wasting scholarships on guys that would be the same as him.. Wyche has under preformed.. Dillman, Means, countless more.. 

hell offer the kid and get some pub because he will likely still decline it and go elsewhere.. worst cost he comes in and is a practice arm

The single worst reasoning and statement I've ever heard to give a kid an offer.

Lmao.. the kid has won a state championship.. the kid is the QB on one of the best teams in DFW and at worst is a practice arm.. we have guys who have been on scholarship for years and have yet to touch the field in a spring game or real game.... 

Hell, I’m sure Grandpa would write over a check also and maybe even alllow UNT to play at Jerryworld..

I rather  have that receiver that he throwing the ball at.  That guy can catch, has good hands and strength.  I don't remember his name or number though.  Is the kid from HP (walk on) still on the Mean Green football team?

You don't offer scholarships to "hope grandpa does this" or hope we can get this donation.  The coaches at UNT and all over country have seen the kid and all agree he isn't a D1 QB.  UNT proved they'll go find and offer a guy that no one will if they think he fits, they obviously don't think that.  If your hypotheticals worked out that would be great, but UNT is already all over the Ford Center in Frisco and tied into Cowboys.  We're doing pretty good in that area already.

After watching the HP/Manvel game, I have three comments.

1.  Love the signing of Martin. Yes, he was surrounded by playmakers, but he makes smart decisions and gets them the ball.

2.  We need to keep the Manvel pipeline open. Unbelievable athletes. 

3. Offer Jones now. Kid was incredible, is a winner, makes those around him better, etc...  I am not a HP fan, but man he played a hell of a game.

      Is this what an “offensive genius” looks like?

      The defense was disastrous last night but stop with this "offense did enough to win" crap. A 3 and out and interception in the first 2 drives is not doing enough to win. Were it not for a defensive stop after the onside kick and a Porter 79 yard run, we'd have been down 21-0 and counting. Yes, the defense needs to do more but what high powered offense puts up 7 in a half? This team did the same crap last year. No offense in the first half and then when we put up garbage time points people say "look at the offense." The offense is bordering bad. Tulsa put up 46 on UTSA. Texas State put up 49 and even Rice put up 29. Just to show you where our "high powered offense" stands.

      Atrocious in "all 3 phases" (that onside kick was a film study discovery by UTSA) but E Morris is just a horrible game manager. Just stupid decisions on multiple levels. I wish we weren't in the bowl hunt so Caponi could be fired if at least as a symbolic action to show the rest of the staff (minus Cobbs) they need to step it up a bunch. To the decision making, it's all been said. The timeout at 2nd and 16 with 49 seconds to go when most offenses would just let the clock run out to close the half, not taking reasonable field goal attempts early on, poor playcalling (honestly surprised a screen didn't get intercepted), these things fall on Eric Morris. Just garbage level game management. It's like he's playing a video game where there's no real consequences. Time of possession was about 39 to 21 in UTSA's favor. I know Porter had huge runs but UTSA also had huge plays. Why is it that others are capable of sustaining drives and eating clock but our "elite" offense can't do so? Defenses aside, you'd think our supposed top notch offense could be more consistent. I know our defense needs to make stops more consistently but anybody please tell me why our offense isn't capable of having some 6 or 7 minute scoring drives? Morris needs to relax on the pace of game. Just idiotic at this point.
