North Texas has a chance to accomplish something it has never done before.  Get to ten wins in one football season.

Odus Mitchell went 9-2 in 1959.  Fry went 9-2 in both 1977 and 1978.   Once the seasons expanded, Dickey and McCarney went 9-4 in 2003 and 2013, respectively.

Now, I know winning ten games now is not the same as winning 10 when there was only 11 and (possibly) a bowl game to be played.  It is however a big milestone and something I think this AD could market the hell of going into next season.

We have 3 regular season games left (UTEP, Army, @Rice).  If we win either of the CUSA conference games, we will have the CCG and the bowl game, or a total of 5 games left this season.

If we can win 4 out of those 5, we'll end up 10-4.  A tall order, but not impossible considering we have have won 5 out of our last 6.

The real question, were those four wins to happen, is how do we justify them?

The other team was depleted by injury.

The other team's coaching staff doesn't care.

If the other team had a better kicker, he wouldn't have missed those tries, and we would've lost.

Any team with half a brain would've known not to take the timeout there, and then we would've run out of clock when we got the ball back, and there would have been no way we win that game.

The other team had more talent.

Our special teams are awful, but the other team was looking to next week, so didn't play to their potential.

Or since we won the game, simply by definition the other team MUST be terrible since it is impossible for NT to do anything positive.

Bigger question will our local t-shirt protesters wear a mean green shirt again?   Will they change other teams logos back to the mean green.  Think there are any snowballs left, with our fall I doubt it.   Stayed tune for this and other life changing events.

We got top 25 votes for the 9-4 season in 2013. If we won out, there's a good chance we could sneak into the top 25 at 11-3. That or 10 wins would be monumental.

11-3 would be big time. Eyebrows would raise at 11-3. And not sure if I have ever seen a 10 win team left out of the top25, let alone an 11 win team.

Can you imagine the excitement around our program if this happened? This would be a game changer and should be looked at as a challenge for this team.

Marshall was getting some Top 25 votes back like 2 weeks ago, is FAU picking up any? I ask because IF we play them and UNT can have a solid showing (ideally a USM performance) vs them then it would be interesting..

Yup, Mississippi State forfeited for using an ineligible player, I think.

And then a few years later, we hired the Mississippi St. Coach (Bob Tyler) who's NCAA violations caused Miss St. to forfeit all of the games that year (77). AND besides Bob Tyler one of the other applicants  that year was Corky Nelson.

We can make disparaging remarks about our students and/or alumni all we want regarding support (or the lack thereof) for our program, but we must always mention our dimwitted administrators first.

Don't forget about justifying a loss where you give up 69 points as a "let down"  or trap game!!  Awesome!

Tyler also was responsible for crack back blocks on great NT nose-guard Chapman and putting him out in two different NT - Miss St. games.  He should have been out of football, and NT hires him.

Go get some hookers and blow with your coach.

Pelini is in Youngstown St with his brother Bo.  I don't recall any hookers, but the blow was true!  Good times!!

Nothing is more discouraging than unappreciated sarcasm.

Good post, oldguystudent!👍👍 (I appreciate your sarcasm).😊

wasn't that game when the mississpi dl man jumped on Jordan Case back while he was on the ground causing him a back injury?  The was the cheapest shot I have every seen in game.

I'm pretty sure it was.

People from the MSU athletic department called NT and told them NOT to hire Tyler. For some reason, the pro-athletics group decided he was the best fit and used all the political capital to get him hired against all odds. I have NEVER understood why.

Your HC will have your program under so many NCAA sanctions before he leaves you'll wish the NCAA just administered the death penalty instead.  Dude is a snake, and as crooked as they come.
