What is the selling point that the Independence Bowl is a better game than say the Alamo Bowl?

When was the last time a non-P5 program played in the Alamo Bowl? The independence has a history of inviting regional G5 schools.

My issue with the New Orleans Bowl is that it is not well promoted even in New Orleans.  The locals don't know anything except the Sugar Bowl.  I'll go anywhere with the possible excepting of the Bahamas Bowl and Hawaii.

In the mean time, win, win, win.

One I can think of offhand is the casinos in Shreveport. Just ask someone who did the trip to LA Tech if they had a good time (if they layed up in Shreveport a couple of nights). It is like getting a twofer...football and a gambling trip. San Antonio, not so much.

I voted for the Heart of Dallas bowl. Playing a bowl game after Christmas & before New Years is a great for national exposure & practice time.

Gotta lean towards the NO Bowl for several reasons.

1) Destination games can build fanbases.  A game sandwiched within 2-3 days of vacation with family/friends makes for memories and connection.  Playing in the Cotton Bowl doesn't even require pre-game festivities.  If you doubt this one, ask how many people were made die hards during the Dickey bowl run in NO...and how many were tethered to the program by a DART train ride to Fair Park

2) Opponent isn't the point when building interest, winning is.  This team isn't at the point where a P5 is a likely win...but a Belt team is.  Boise built their brand early on by WINNING, and nobody cared who it was against.  And, to be honest, I find it funny that the same people who look at the Georgia game of 2013 or this year's Iowa game and say "moral victories are irrelevant" are now pining for a bowl game against a P5 that we will likely lose because it will give us "exposure."

3) Competitive bowl games keep people's interest, regardless of matchup.  Folks that want to watch football will watch any football so long as the game is good.  And, no, we are not going to see a significant bump in viewership because we are playing a Nebraska.  Why?  Because Nebraska is playing North Texas.

4) When the hell did we become too good to play a Belt team?  We may win 9 games this season and play for a conference title.  Commendable, no doubt, but it's a blip on our historical radar.  How do you make it more than a blip?  See #2...WINNING

Some great memories from New Orleans, I'd love to go back.

Personally, I vote for any boowl game I can make, and don't have to switch around my schedule.  So, no to the Armed Forces Bowl.

No idea, and we have talked about conferences like the Big12 not having enough teams.. Yes they would likely pass over UNT potentially but I’m sure you could get a good # of UNT fans to SA for the Alamo bowl thus making UNT attractive...

The independence bowl is much more attainable, and still matches w/aP5.   The Alamo bowl is higher up the pecking order for the P5s.  We won’t get placed there as much as I would love it.

That makes sense, I thought the Alamo bowl was the 4/5 option out of 6 for the Big12/Pac12(?). Personally, I think it would be easier to sale alumni on SA around Xmas/New Years time (no idea the exact date) than going to  shreveport but I’ve never actually stayed in Shreveport just passed through it.

Don’t get me (or anyone else here, I bet) wrong... that would be amazing, I just don’t see it happening.  This one has the Longhorns written all over it (they lack 2 wins for eligibility & have Kansas & Bro-less Tech).

Top-level opponent as opposed to all other available bowls.

Alamobowl has P5s in it, Big12 vs Pac12 (I believe)...

Agree it would be amazing and think it would be great even if it was vs a tough P5 team... SA has alot of solid HS talent this year and even a solid performance could be a boost in UTSA own backyard... Also, lets hope TT can beat UT

I love New Orleans, but Frisco or HOD make the most sense.  The school needs a DFW game to sell its bowl allotment.  The team needs a late bowl to spread its extra bowl practices out.

Starting to lean towards HOD now...

Works for me. We have a good showing there and we are becoming a tradition at the old Cotton Bowl.

I clicked New Mexico but honestly would love an AZ bowl and would be so excited to help organize events for every one.
