The team as a whole doesn't suck. At times they suck. Last week vs FAU they REALLY SUCKED. But they're just inconsistent and they seem to have mental lapses throughout the games. I guess that's a young team.....

I wondered if they would have a hangover from the FAU debacle. They came out quickly in the first quarter but as soon as they ran into some adversity, their shoulders started slumping. Then on their last TD drive they seemed to have a sense of urgency. And the 4th down stops we're HUGE.

Theyre just all over the place and it's maddening to watch at times. My only worry is I would prefer to see them putting it together at this point in the season (special teams) but being 5-3 is better than 3-5.

Would love to have the cobwebs knocked out of their heads next week. Get out of Ruston win a W and I think the schedule lines up for a major run to end the year and some serious mo going into the conf championship game.

We need to kick off like we did in the second half the rest of the season.  I get worried when ever we kickoff.  I am really disappointed in the three unsportsman calls we got. Murray cost us a TD on his.  When the running back runs 50 yards for TD you did your job and that is in the face of the defense no other crap required.  I watched the three guys come off the field after the calls and did not see someone talking to them.  We are not good enough to have these stupid penalties.   I was surprised that 71 on OD never got one.

This defense has showed up in the fourth quarter every time it has been called. I'm very pleased with the way out defense handles fourth quarters. What we need is consistency. Almost every game, our offense is on fire and defense struggles the first half. It's the exact opposite the second half which allows the opposing team back in the game until the last 5 minutes of the game when they both turn it on.

If we can get consistency from both, we'll be very hard to beat.

I think it is funny that anyone is coming down on the defense in this game (not saying the OP is, just an obervation).

By the end of the first half they had given up a whopping 9 points (3 field goals).  By game's end they had surrendered 24 points.  And, as Black Scholes stated, they stood up on 4th and 1 on back-to-back possessions to shut the door on the game.

Not a dominating performance, but certainly not the porous defense we have come to expect.

Maybe we should adjust the title to say that our special teams (in particular the KO coverage team) sucks We obviously know how to block punts, but giving up two TD's in the same night, to the same guy, in the 8th game of the season is (IMHO) pretty unacceptable. AND so is getting dumb penalties!

On a different note. Yes Emmitt, I have noticed that Fines command/understanding of the offense is much better than last year. He seems to be operating more on a level of "understanding" this year rather than "instinct/reaction" like he did last year.

Yes this team is maddening. The special teams is  atrocious. The defense is nauseating at times but I feel like this team is so damn young that this group will be nasty in 2 years.

I know your post was sarcastic

This team has flaws like all do. Enjoy the ride. It appears they find more ways to win than they do lose aka UTSA.

Enjoy the process of growth, as we are in year two of the rebuild. Next year should be fun, I hope. In the mean time we are still winning more these days. Knee-jerk reactions are the order of the day in the times we live. Order a little patience at the bar and enjoy the little victories and improvement on the field I have seen.

Yet here we are at 5&3, should end the season 8&4 or 7&5. Not to shabby for Seth's 2nd season. We beat UAB,UTSA, and So. Miss. with La. Tech to come. I don't think anyone realizes how good FAU is , which is not to excuse our terrible performance against them.

we have not won pretty but we have won.  In the past we never won the close ones.  CUSA is very competitive and you never know who is going to beat who each week.  After we UAB I said this team is going beat a lot of people.  Does UAB get special favors from the NCAA next season or do they become like the rest of the conference.

I think the title of this thread would be more appropriate if we had lost.  In general, we dont suck when we win.

If you were actually at the game and sat through the freezing 4th quarter and watched them man up at the most important time of the game, and put our offense back on the field in victory formation you wouldn’t have left saying we suck.

Even with the mistakes, I dont think we suck.  I think we are undersized and not deep enough up front.  Those guys on the line are playing really tough against big O lineman, but when we don’t get penetration or sacks we get picked apart.  Its gets worse when we blitz and they pick it up.

But against the run in the 4th quarter they rose up and played awesome.

I think you missed something.
