The positive is, basketball programs are a lot easier to turn around than football.

yes Benford proved that by turning a 20 win team around and ran into into the ground

WB was hired in the second half of August. Official practices for basketball started on Sept. 30th, which means he would have had less than 45 days to find a new coach. Even if WB was able to find someone, finding a competent coaching staff in that timeframe is a pretty tall order to ask for before practices begin. To say we'd have fared much better with a different staff than what we saw under Benford in his 5th and final year given the short timeframe to work with is a pretty outlandish.

Your defense of Benford  and RV is amusing

Let's just let Beford get his guys in here......

There is nothing in that post defending Benford. Quit projecting your rage on me.

Not too hard to do much better than this

When does the 14th place banner go up in the Pit?

If we hire a new staff in September, yes it's pretty outlandish. We'd have to offer premium salaries to try to pull coaches away from programs. The other option is to either elevate someone to interim or hire someone currently not coaching as an interim and sleep walk through the season where we can shop for a real coach.

A GA could do this

Yep, and we could perhaps further tank the program. What's to say the two (now) star sophomores stick with the program if we "hire a GA" to captain the sinking ship? It's easy to say things could be worse but I think we're lucky some of the players chose to stay.

It was an awful situation that should have been taken care of in the Spring but it didn't happen. That's on RV and university leadership.

There was no way to find a competent coach and staff in that short amount of time.  We also would've lost our best player regardless.  And, we would have still had to pay Benford's last year PLUS that of the new coach.

This ranking is garbage I lost count of the amount of programs ranked ahead of us in this poll that we could easily beat. Pure garbage.

It might be, but it tells you all you need to know about the way the national media now views a program that RV literally obliterated by hiring and keeping Bumford. 5 years ago, we were a top 50 program. Today, it’s damn near considered a complete dud. That’s why I posted about how truly awesome it is that our fine college of music got mentioned here...in an article about basketball. That’s classic UNT right here.

Well when your athletic ranking is in the triple digits x 3, what else is there to talk about. I just wish we could get people talking about our business programs. They are no slouch and have very competent programs within. But your point is taken though.
