Most NT students will see the name Florida Atlantic and have no idea what that term even means. The NT Daily will probably think we just beat an airport team out of Boca Raton/Palm Beach.

We have no business being in a conference together. Never have. They should be playing in an eastern version of the SBCUSA and we should be playing in a conference of Western SBCUSA teams. Nobody brings any fans to each other's stadiums, each other's fanbase don't care or don't know about the other one, and we are a full time zone away from each other. I cannot wait for the day when F_U, ODU, Charlotte, WKU, and even Marshall aren't on our ledger for conference games. Much rather be playing Arky State, Texas State, ULL, Troy, and NMSU than any of them--at least they can bring fans and we can drive to those games.

I'd love this setup and think it could very well occur in the next 10 years:

NMSU, UTEP, UTSA, Tx State, Rice, UNT, La Tech, ULL, Arkansas State, USM, UAB, and Troy.

Other side can be Appy State, Marshall, WKU, MUTS, USA, FAU, FIU, Charlotte, ODU, Georgia State, Ga Southern, and Coastal Carolina.

Damn the Sun Belt & every refugee from that god-forsaken conference (except, of course, UNT).

For FIU it did.  One sided for sure, kinda like us calling the SMU game the Safeway Bowl.  That means nothing to SMU.

You have to compete with a school for it to be a rival.  FIU fans are delusional.  They have played Miami 2 or 3 times all AT Miami.  A rivalry would suggest that the other team would have enough respect to come to their stadium, but their stadium is a whole other mess!  FIU UTSA fanbases sound the same to me.

I think that is millennial issue regarding having no idea who we are and our students having no idea who you are.  They don't care about sports.  I think the way travel cost are going their will be a consolidate of conferences (not jumping to P5) but the Group 5 will look for more friendly travel schools.  You can have Troy, ULM, ULL, Ark State.
