The best HS kids are gonna go to the blue blood programs. With JUCO no longer counting, I'd say that Ross needs to focus on 2nd year JUCO kids that play for winning programs, and getting kids like Jossel who are bouncing back from KU. He could absolutley get kids that are bouncing back from Tech that Grant can't use. I don't think we will see another HS kid make the starting 5 in this gym anytime in the forseeable future unless there are changes at the NCAA level.
Kentucky made a living on one-and-done teams made up of the best high school recruits in the nation. The college basketball world has changed since then. We can build our brand with the same one-and-done strategy, but with Seniors and grad transfers instead. Once the North Texas brand is firmly established, we will be a destination the best players want to play for which will make recruiting much easier.
I actually like this a lot...it far more values your performance in conference play and helps to prevent some team with a sub .500 record from getting hot for 3-4 games being your sole NCAA representative. don't want to play 6-7 games to reach your final? perform throughout the season.
especially in the case of a mid/low major conference where your best team could be an 11/12 seed, but a deep upset in the conference tourney could have your rep as a 15/16 seed
