1. The idea that people doubted Fine is getting more and more laughable

It's funny to look back at it now, but there were people who doubted Mason Fine coming into the year.

Umm, Brett . . . you do remember that at one point you were the #1 doubter, right?

I thought he was in Mason's corner the whole time while downplaying Shanbour while 1/2 the folks here were adamant Shanbour was just as good, or better.

He's obviously been even more of a Shanbour denigrator.  But do you not recall his saying, "FBS defenses will break him in half"?  Do you not recall his comments about "little Locust Grove" and nobody else offering him?

I don't recall the "break him in half" comment, but yeah, the "little guy/town" stuff is just truth.  He's had to overcome a lot.  But I don't remember Vito championing the doubters.

Brett's point in saying those things was that Fine had no business playing last year; so, no, it's not remotely truth.

Not sure what you mean about "championing the doubters."

I’ll say that I thought Mason shouldn’t have played last year. We should have stuck with Morris a little longer and gone to Shanbour if we needed a backup. I hate that we had to burn his red shirt but all of my doubts have been cast away now that he’s killing it. My bad for doubting him but I will be especially sad in 2020 when I have to watch Pearson or someone else at the helm and not Mason Fine.

His comment about being broken (or folded) in half by big time opponents was directed at Shanbour, who he characterized last spring as having a tendency to take of and run a little too much. What I found strange about that criticism is that the exact same thing could have been said about Fine......but it wasn't.  I have been one of the observers that thought, from the beginning, that "QB skills-wise" Shanbour is just as good as Fine,....... and probably sightly better.  But the one (mostly) unmeasurable factor is how the two mostly identically skilled QB's operate under pressure. Looks like whatever the coaches do to evaluate that factor is working pretty well for them. Shanbour took the team in for a TD (without flinching) against a B-10 team right after Fine had been hurt. And Fine took the team on an almost impossible drive to win one of the most important conference games of the year. My comment/assessment last fall about Fine turned out to be true......"he just oozes with confidence" .  Shanbour also has a great amount of confidence.....he's just a little more fastidious about it.

And for those who admire Thompson (who did rack up a surprising number of passing yards in his career) so much,  lets apply the "how the QB operates under pressure in a potential championship season"  assessment to him. We all know how Fines' pressure performance ended against UTSA.  Does anyone remember how Thompson's pressure drive (in a potential championship season) ended against UTSA in 2013? He pulled a Tony Romo.

Good post ol' friend.  Good to have seen you the other night.  I apologize for my language. When I thought we were going to lose this game I was just frustrated as hell that we (at the time) were being schooled by a 6 year old football program

My old college roommate sitting by me told me he'd never known me to cuss the 40 plus years we've known each other.  I sang at his first wedding.  In fact, wrote the song & used a 12 string guitar for my accompanyment but now I do what Old Men do best......RAMBLE!:Grrrrr:

Mason Fine?  The ingredient he brings to the game is his being a field general aka leader.  Skills are essential for any QB, but that other ingredient many times separates the tax-payers from those who don't pay a damn dime to the IRS.  (There I go again).

GOD I LOVE THIS TEAM!  I played the video over & other yesterday & still couldn't believe what I was seeing.

GMG!

He didn't.   It's why they brought in Morris.  Fine should have redshirted last year.

You said Vito was the "#1 doubter".   I'm just saying I never saw that.

I did not see any coverage by the news media about the game, maybe i missed it.  I was sure glad to see the sports talk cover if romo would go Green Bay since he from the area and grew up a packer fan.  I guess SMUT must have had a bye week because I did not see anything about them on the news.  How many alumni live in the DFW metroplex?  Seems like they could give them a minute of coverage.

Channel 11 teased it early in the news ("why things are exciting in Denton" or something like that) and then had some highlights later.

Chan 8 also had some highlights (late news due to ABC game).

Chan 5 I don't think had much sports.  On Saturdays, they're seeming to try to lead into SNL.

Chan 4 I don't recall if they had a 10:00 news.

Disagree.  #1 - Mason earned the right to play.  #2 - If he didn't play last year, he would not be performing at his current level this year.

With regard to Brett, I don't disagree with his take that Mason was going to be the starter this year.  But I'm sick of his "I'm so much smarter than this stupid fan base" M.O.  He loves to remind everyone about his predictions when they come true--even when they're pretty obvious--but he conveniently forgets about his major whiffs.

I think we're getting down to semantics now... which is good.
Mason did earn the right to play last year, due to the very poor start by Morris & his effort during Spring/Fall practice.   But, Coach Littrell himself has said multiple times in different interviews that he would have liked to have redshirted Fine last year.  If the coach goes into the season believing you should be redshirted, I think that would mean (at least at the beginning of the season) Fine had "no business" playing last year.

I most-certainly agree with your #2 point.

As for Vito's demeanor when he writes...  I submit to you an alternative:  John Whisler.   I would much rather have a guy like Vito writing as-it-is, rather than a pom-pom waiving doofus who after 3 lackluster wins predicts us to go 11-0.
