They used to scan IDs at Fouts. Not sure why the change. Card security (since it was tied to your Wells Fargo account)? People lose their IDs? Too expensive to maintain card scanners? Dunno.

That's funny.  Back in the day, your student ID# was your social.  Times change.

As part of the student organization give away, they will scan IDs to verify the number that are present at the end of the 3rd quarter.  So, the technology obviously exists and will be use in the stands.  Not sure why it's been made so hard.

The issue with scanning ID's was that 1) it didn't create any incentive to do it beforehand, and that in turn 2) didn't create any perception of demand.  Students placed very little thought into getting a ticket before hand because they felt they could always decide last minute to go.  Studies show that if you make someone RSVP to an event, they are more likely to go.

So to create that RSVP effort/commitment, students had to go pickup paper tickets to take to the game.  Problem was that too many people were deciding not to go after they got the ticket.  Since the tickets were mostly gone at that point, fewer students who decided at the last moment to go could pick one up.

So the current online system make you RSVP one, but then you have to claim it later on via the app.  If you don't claim it, it is free to be given to a person last minute.

Wren and Co. need to get out ahead of this and connect with the students starting today.  Make the ticket process the easiest ever.  Sometimes convenience creates issues.  What was wrong with scanning your student ID at the gate?  Pick up tickets on campus, set up a kiosk in the Union, go to the student organization meetings, etc...

They already do make it easy...

Literally they have sent out emails with STEP BY STEP directions... The only easier way would be having someone doing it for you..

Well this at least partially explains why we have had a noticeable dip in student attendance this year.

The app sounds like a great system in theory, but it needs to freaking work or students aren't going to make the hike over the bridge to the game if they think they'll have difficulty at the gate.

Its not an app..  Its going website submitting your name, email, and phone number.. you select you want the ticket to the game by clicking on the game, and then on game day a few hours before the game, it sends you a text for your to accept (and you reply back yes to acept), with the ticket loading on this website for you to use...

Also, it shouldn't be the reason for the drop, because they still hand out free tickets to any student that doesn't get it to work.. If a student doesn't show up because of this, then they are not trying at all...

---------------------------------------------------

They do this scanning because anyone can get a ticket.. But having that individual ticket scanned for that individual person/account allows them to track/know who cames to the games... Also, it saves on the cost of printing/supplying the ticket

As a student I couldn't agree more with the frustration of this year's ticket system. I legit had friends not go to the home opener against Lamar because of ticket issues (they obviously were on edge to begin with, but still!). I've always wondered why they don't just let you swipe your ID to enter the stadium like basketball does. Everyone caries their student ID with them, so this would be a perfect solution to the current issues.

With ANY technology, there are going to be some who have difficulty. This makes it clear they are working on the problem and explaining it. As mentioned above, Baker responds to tweets and emails. Other threads have shown there are AD employees who follow what's on this board and I'm sure they are letting the powers that be known there are issues being reported.

I have no idea why you can't use your student ID, but suspect it has to do with privacy/identity theft issues. It's along the same lines of being fingerprinted for various state licenses where different state organizations are are forbidden to share that data.

This alone tells me it's a problem.

The problem was at the first game that people were trying multiple different emails.. this now tells you exactly how to do it including which email to use. it’s not problems on the AD office end, it’s on the student end.. literally it takes 3-4 minutes at the very longest to do this..
