That's what it sounds like if he got injured for a whole year. But Vito kept saying one year so maybe not?

Not if he redshirted.  You can only get a 6th year of eligibility if he was medically unable to play two seasons, or in large enough a percentage (I think 75%) of two seasons.

Given that he missed just one season due to injury, the only way he could get a 6th season would be if he could prove that he redshirted in 2013 due to injury and was not just taking a conventional redshirt.
