Iowa

Game was lost because of stupid penalties and the inability to convert on 3rd down.. Preston looking at you buddy.. you alone accounted for 1/3 or 1/4, not sure the final count on penalties but that killed us..

Very poor ST from the KR blocking with Darden only getting out to 15 on kicks that were short is terrible.. stupid Fair Catch interference as well by hall, when the guy has signaled and may have been trying to fake out Hall but dude you see the PR get away or another teammate say something.. The FG block was a missed block by Andy... Punting again was terrible, looked like Murray in the most recent BTG episode when the QBs try to hit the uprights and he kicked the ball back.

Again the 3rd down offense I do not get if it's 3rd and 5.. why run a 3 yard in? Murray allowed Fine to get blown up.. Wilson great game, Quinn great drive, Guyton looks the part of a Go To WR..

Overall, Yes a bad game but way more impressed after Iowa compared to SMU.. If our team can ever figure out 3rd down it would great.. Penalties cost us..

My question is, how easy is it to get out Biaginis contract and how soon can a new guy come in, and let alone have an impact? Is using guys from 1st team offense/defense messing with these guys so they don't wanna get hurt? They not getting enough time and overloaded on information?

Is not some of it the play calling on 3rd down?  Just seems like we need more of a sense of urgency on these third downs.

still can't figure out why we parted ways with Tommy Perry.

It's been brought up that Perry had been here for years (I believe 5 years) and it maybe he didn't wanna get locked into a spot without moving up after being there for years along with being at a program that has/had a history of losing?

No idea, but the RBs preformed well last year and years before (another reason TP likely stayed on when SL got here + recruiting) and the ST worked last year,. I don't think SL had a problem with TP to remove him, but that TP just didn't wanna be someone who stays stagnant at 1 school in 1 role

It looked like Andy was blocking inside, which is standard. On a bright side is the o- line clicking and is Fine starting to break out and really take control. Our OC is calling a better game. Looking forward to our D playing C- USA talent!

When GH gets on a roll he can call plays, but when he isn't in a  rhythm it's off..

to answer @Harry honestly it's like GH is trying to find the perfect play that can gain 2 yardswhen we need 1 yard instead of just going with another play if that makes sense. Last year in the bowl game they would bring in an extra OL and run it with Wilson.. I just wish we could do some ground and pound power I when needed.. Also, did the FB Maiki (I know I likely misspelled it) play at all in SMU or today?

No one really believed we'd win.  Did we keep it close, or did Ferentz just take a lot of guys out early?  Yes, their top two backs got dinged, but it didn't matter.  Wadley had 104 yards on 10 touches in a little over a quarter.  The transfer from Nevada was on his way to a 100 yard rushing day before he went out with an injury just after half time.

Problem:  their third and fourth team runners lit us up for 153 yards on 30 carries with 2 TDs.  That's pretty good production from your #3 and #4 back.

I think Ferentz probably kept Wadley out after his ankle was dinged because they have Penn State next Saturday night.

The upside for us is that I think it's pretty safe to say that we won't face a C-USA opponent who goes 4 deep at tailback without much fall off.

Just watching it, Iowa didn't have a fancy offensive plan, even from the start.  I think they went straight vanilla on us.  Guessing their offense spent most of the practice week preparing for Penn State as well.

They had 57 rushes, 27 passes.  Two TD passes even with that limited amount.

I'm not sure what the complaining about the officials was, Iowa was penalized 10 times as well, so...it was really just pretty sloppy on both sides at times.   These types of games are probably taxing on the referees because they know one side has the better athletes.  They have to be expecting lots of holding calls from outmanned lines desperately clawing at bigger, stronger D-linemen for 60 minutes.

Finally, our special teams is disastrous.  I don't buy into the "you can't stay somewhere too long" theory.  Normally, a special teams coach moves up within a coaching staff and is given more responsibilities, maybe with RBs or TEs, sometimes with OLs.  Perhaps, Perry brought this up to Littrell and was told to walk.  If that's the case, then it was a mistake on Littrell's part.  Perry had more experience than almost all the other offensive coaches.

I'm sure Biagi is a nice kid, but he has far less experience than Perry...at a time when our offensive coaches have far less experience than our defensive coaches.

The thing I hate to think about is coaches and players coming in here and using North Texas as, "well, I can try here, and if I fail, no one will notice."  That's why we have Division II school players starting for us.  It may also explain Littrell's decision not to hire more experienced guy to coach the offense and, now, special teams.  I don't like my alma mater being the "try out" or "last chance"  school for players or coaches.  If that's what's happening...not happy.

What do you expect... they were losing for the first 40 minutes of the game.. at least Wheeler didn't blow out there QBs knee and get death threats like he did vs UF last year

Oh, no doubt florida fans were worse.  Myself and at least one other person were harassed and stalked online by one of those inbred twits.  But it still doesn't excuse booing injured players.
