Why is the plastic material placed on the sidelines of some fields?  I see players run out of bounds and then slip and slide on that stuff.  What is the purpose.  Seems like an injury waiting to happen.

The one's with dots are to gather players for special teams or mass substitutions. 

You know, collateral damage for dropping acceptance standards to that of a 12/700 entry exam scores.

Not what I am talking about.  The plastic I am talking about is usually on the sidelines of fields with natural grass, is white in color and covers the area where the players stand.

I think what you are talking about is actually a canvas/tarp material. It is there because that area becomes a dusty/muddy mess once you add sweat, water, sports drinks, etc.

That's it.  See more players slipping on that stuff. Seems like there would be a better material.
