It's frustrating to me because it shows that our biggest problem is the playcalling.

Some don't like MF as our QB because of his height. Maybe his numbers are misleading but I don't think you can blame the SMUUU debacle on MF. I think he's getting better with every game...... as he should be.

So MF is getting better, at least statistically. Does GH get any credit for this???

He should get the credit for Fines improvement, but his play calling isn't getting better like it needs to be..

I would much rather be 2-0 then to have Mason Fine on this list. Now can we stop with the moral victories and unplug the spin machine?

I think we all would be... but we're not, so we can look for silver linings if there are any.   I mean, what are people supposed to post instead?  The "we suck" reactions from the SMU game are already posted.   Time to look forward.

All we do at UNT is find silver linings.

Iowa will beat us by 40 and we'll go "well our third string corner really played his heart out ho hum!"

It all gets a bit old after a while. If we suck, we suck, if we're good, we're good. Call it like it is. We sucked against SMU. We'll probably suck against Iowa. Will we suck in conference? I have no idea.

Yep.  That has been covered extensively.   And will be covered again on Saturday evening - next Tuesday.  But if you see something good happening in the midst of the suck (like, for instance, Jaelon Darden), that is a worthwhile topic to chat about here on THE forum for UNT Football fans.

Maybe if that wasn't all we ever had to talk about. Little slivers of silver linings. It gets tiresome. We need to be better fans, and by that I mean we need to be hammers and the AD needs to be our nail when we are going through a decade of blow hard.

It's not.  There are plenty of pain points that are continually talked about.
And should this AD (just over 1 year on the job) be held responsible for the past 10 years?

I am a big fan of Mason "So" Fine, but this stat is not all that great considering all the crap yards from the last game. Hopefully, he plays well this week and can tear up some CUSA ass. GOTTA GET A BOWL!

Crap yards?  My goodness, do you all expect him to quit, take a knee every play, run a FB dive?  The young man is out there trying to win a game.

No, they shouldn't.

But there are plenty of things to hold this AD accountable for already. And they aren't being held to the fire for nothing. And they probably won't be either.

So...When does accountability start? Year 2? 3? Ever?

No. But I expect our fan base to be smart enough to realize that garbage yards are just that, garbage. They shouldn't be celebrated or created into graphics and heralded as a POTW. Yes, MF has thrown for a lot of yards. So what. Do it in wins and I will step up on the front row of the applauding line.

Sure!   I agree.  But we've hashed over most, if not all of them here.
Do you have some examples?    ...Specifically of things WB & his administration should be held accountable for that he has not taken nut-kicks for on GMG.com.

I mean, this is a fan message board.   When you're talking about holding the AD "accountable", there's only so much that can be done HERE.

Yeah, you're right about only so much going to be done here. But where then? And by who? When bad decisions are being made at the top, only the Prez and BOR are going to step in. They aren't going to step on toes in year 1 or 2, or 3. Point is, when are bad decisions going to be painted with attention so they stop from the get go? When is the losing and losing culture going to he halted? What if we go 4-8 this and next year??

I think last year's improvement from 1-11 to 5-8 (even though, still a losing record) is satisfactory.  I expect that trajectory to continue upward though, and I anticipate Wren does too.    So 4-8 would be an incredible disappointment, one I would hope Baker/Smatresk/New Chancellor lady/Brint would not tolerate.

WB's decision to keep Benford was a terrible, terrible one.   We've really let him have it here for that though.  UNT got serious and bought-out McCasland, and I expect him to do well here.  Totally unknown for now, so there's not much for us to do around MBB other than re-hash old Benford wounds, or be optimistic about what McCasland will do.

Everything else from IPF, T&F Stadium, Master Plan, a flagpole, how loud the speakers are, etc...  is semantics.

A man with his head on straight. I thank you sir as a man of reason. Negativity breeds negativity

Be specific on what Wren needs to be accountable for that he is not addressing to you liking?  Easy to throw bomba from behind a screen name. Wren has a tough job and is doing fine at making cultural changes. That does not happen over night.

To be fair though, his screen name is rather revealing.

Yes! There is a level of accountability before being fired! So often on here that seems to be the only option anyone suggests

Is this a joke?  It's because it's never happened with relevance. Programs are openly allowed to absolutely bottom out  to the deepest depths of the ocean before a coaching change happens. Look at our 2 main sports' recent track record. This fan base is either blind, deaf, or dumb.

That I have been a fan of North Texas all my life?  I can take the good with the bad and will be critical, but my years of being a fan have also made me realize that what Baker and Co. are doing right now is what should have been done decades ago and is not going to happen over night.  It doesn't skew my point of view.  I want what is best for North Texas, but I also want to look at things realistically.

I've seen multiple posts calling for the firing of coaches or assistants after a single loss. People have questioned our AD for not demanding assistant football coaches be fired as a season where we got to a bowl game. Other demand firing of various staff members within the department because they did something that bothered a particular fan. In the real world, companies that fire people capriciously don't last long and have a MUCH harder time getting competent people to work for them. There certainly is a time for firing, but it is only after some effort has been made to fix what ever problems are happening short of firing. Doing that isn't being "blind, deaf or dumb." Rather it is taking a responsible approach that have proven successful over and over for the last few decades.

Firing just because someone made a single mistake has never been a successful approach and has been recognized as a failed approach since the 1970s. There are some small businesses that still do it, but they are doomed to stay very small.

He quoted you and Ben Gooding.  I was referring to his comments about Mr. Gooding being able to hide behind a screen name.
