Good stuff.

Can you do MGN a favor and ask SL tomortow in the presser who is actually calling plays? And has he or is he considering taking over? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

If you're feeling super salty tomorrow, also ask him if he regrets letting go of Tommy Perry. When his ego inevitably says no, tell him, "The results say you should."

1 & 3 are essentially the same point.  Our oline struggles led to the shutdown of Wilson.

But thanks for jinxing us by calling for a win, Brett.  That should have been recorded in your notes.

#4 - When Brett Vito calls for a win, UNT usually loses.  :P

We learned that a large amount of people here thought we should be able to beat a team with much better talent and a much higher paid coach and staff at their place just because we bring a lot of people to their stadium...

What they pay their coach is absolutely irrelevant as far as us being competitive with them. Every team that takes smug behind the woodshed this season will be doing it with a coach that makes less money than Chad Morris outside of Gary Patterson. Find a new point to try and drive home.

They are 1 season ahead us in their "rebuild" project. They outplayed us and out coached us as if they were 3 years ahead of us.

Bottom line, our coaches aren't doing their job on NSD. And that has little to nothing to do with smu.

All I'm saying is that I didn't expect us to win down there--I've been adamant about that all along--and that they are way better than us still. We played bad, like we were too tight, probably because the entire team heard nothing all week but that SMU is our rival and we gotta beat them, while SMU looked like they were playing SFA again, loose and calm, even when down 10 points.

SL looked like a coach who is still learning on the job, which he is after coaching one season and one game before this one. Hopefully, he and the staff will learn from this. But I doubt seriously its gonna change anything for NSD in 2018. At this point, the earliest that could even show any kind of improvement would be at least on NSD in 2019, but most likely, it would take a winning season this year and next year for us to make an improvement on NSD for 2020. Its just the sad reality of the situation. Legit talent, while being offered by other FBS schools, is choosing those other FBS schools over us, fairly regularly and easily. Until we hire some big name coach, unless we start going into the darker side of recruiting, or until SL can build up a resume that get the attention of TX HS Coaches and parents, the status quo is that we are near the bottom of recruiting totem pole still, until proved otherwise.

Hello Mr. Sugarcoat everything

Yep, that's what I'm not for on this board...sugarcoating.

Our program sucks hard usually. Having a high paid coach, playing in a great stadium, and in a better conference hasn't changed any of this yet. Will it? That's what we want, but I haven't seen it yet, except for 2013's dream season (by our standards). Losing at SMU isn't surprising to me. Being at the bottom of recruiting doesn't surprise me.

That ain't sugarcoating...that's reality

Lol at waiting 2020 to see recruiting progress. If that's the case, we need to help see Litrell out yesterday.

The last three seasons we have lost to SMU and this one was by far the worst one. And if this lost doesn't piss you off then what's the point really anymore? This week it's on to Iowa where odd makers show us having a very slim chance to win, hopefully we show improvement and play our ass off and make it a game. Because if we don't, our next game against a returning UAB program is going to be a nail biter for Wren and SL to win. Because if we lose, the fans will fall off and we will be right back down to ground zero again.

i think some people take this stuff way to seriously.  sure, winning would be nice, but it's not the end of the world...we have a good life...beer...football...enjoy it man, just enjoy it.  i've never been pissed about losing a game and i've been around since 95...it's just a game...relax.

I semi agree with this outlook. It IS just a game and this is just a secondary part of all of our lives. With that said, we should still want to be associated with a winner either way you dice it.

It's been a long time ago and (maybe) different times, but I used to watch a 1-AA school show up and beat the likes of New Mexico, TCU, Texas Tech, Rice, and SMU. And in all cases those schools had 20 more scholarships to work with, much better paid coaches, much better facilities, and much better funded programs.

I also remember during the same era, that we never had a problem getting a punter. When they needed one they would have a "casting-call-try-out" during spring, and they always ended up with great punters.

And finally, I suggest that we stop calling the SMU game a "rivalry" game. As my dear departed mother used to say "it takes two to tango" and near as I can tell, SMU is not dancing to that tune.  What I suggest is that we call it our  Credibility game. Yes I know that, in theory, all of our games are credibility games, but the SMU game is the best opportunity to get credibility in our local media market.  Our coaches obviously don't know how much we hate to lose to SMU. They need to be reminded of that concept next year.

Then what is our goal?

What is our identity?

Its not hard to go grab a six pack of beer and sit in front of the couch and call it a day.

Speaking of identity, what handle did you used to use on here?

Lets see....Dodge could recruit but not coach. Big Dan could coach but not recruit. SL.....? He's here for at least two more years and hopefully he brings both recruiting and coaching to gather...its just not happening right now. But I support SL.........I gotta believe he's the guy...

You don't have to believe he is the guy. Our small sample size would say he currently isn't. But I do think it's a bit premature to write him off. How this season progresses and just as importantly how NSD wraps up will be telling.
