I'm not so sure that this one game will be the turning point on dominance.  It's important to us but not conclusive of future events.

The dominating record of the past occurred in the 20s-40s when SMU was a major college and we were not.  By rights, the Ponies should beat us every time because they out-recruit us every year and money, prestige, and coaching should make them the favorite each year.

Coaching and (especially) desire can overcome a lot of shortcomings but I don't think that this game will be a turning point for us even if we win.  It would stop a two-game skid but who knows who the coaches of the future will be?  Littrell was competitive with a one-win team from the year before.  Even if he fails in year two that doesn't mean that he, or any future coach, will be weighed down with the stigma of always (or even usually) losing to the Mustangs each year.

This is a good series that should continue each year; hopefully with both teams in the same conference.

I agree with Brett on this one. A win Saturday would be an important building block for this season and might give recruiting a kick start.

Hit 500 wins!......a win over smu would be a huge confidence builder, no way around that. Don't win...well not the end of the season but puts temporary damper on things till we get another win.

This is big in that I'm hoping  to see improvement over last year.

As for the overall record. I don't really see the record from 100 years ago as relevant.

A win would make us 4-4 in the last 8 when we were both on the same level of the college football world. That's more relevant.

I think we're gonna see a shootout on Saturday and the Mean Green will win.

A UNT win is huge lift for this fan base I believe..

1- it's smart they are already pushing the student tickets early in the week compared to the ticket bugs for game 1, and them pushing the tickets/ride down to UTSA last last year.

2- Alumni in Dallas should come see UNT, and getting a W would be big in terms of interest and put a damper on SMU.. Also SMU needs to get to a bowl game as well, us not being a W for them is challenging.

Go out and win, and come back to Apogee with a winning record of 2-1 or 3-0 (if they beat Iowa, just dreaming). How many here predicted us being 2-1 (at worse coming back to Apogee for UAB)..

the SMU W could be a big momentum builder in terms of fans starting to buy in, i wouldn't say it's a must win but it's a must win in terms of getting people to jump on the bandwagon now. w at SMU, and handle business vs UAB

A blackout against UTSA would be amazing. We'd be wearing appropriate attire for UTSA's funeral. ;)

I believe that is what the Promotion sch. says for UTSA, the blackout i mean...

No, right now it only mentions a blackout for the Oct 28 game against Old Dominion.

I don't see us winning this year.  That doesn't mean that we won't win next year.  Or the year after that.  I think we'll start to have an edge in this series as Fine and our oline depth builds and matures.

So...I disagree.

I think this game is winnable. The defense has to put its foot on Hicks' throat early in the game. And then not step off of it.

Blitzkrieg the mess outta this QB. Play tight coverage, a soft press if you will to take away the cheap high % throws during our assault. Get the QB swaying in the pocket and 2nd guessing his every step. This is how we win the game.

*LB play will be absolutely essential to the success of this game.
