Guyton had better be a game-changer back there if we're going to risk him returning kicks/punts.

Yeah he better have Brelan type return skills. I'd rather have someone else back there

Littrell says the competition is still open, but he took plenty of time to say how good Mason is going to be. I would think that means SL is leaning heavily toward starting Mason. He didn't even mention Isadore either.

Yeah I caught that as well.  He has two guys in his mind right now with Fine being the main guy.  Just gotta hope Fine can stay healthy.

I'm just hoping we continue to have a good APR. I see 6-6 as a best case scenario with Fine right now unless our defense is tops in the nation

I notice in the background of the video, there is a player rolling on the ground.

Looks like some one is shouting instructions to the player.

Is this a form of punishment?

PS-

I think Mason has the starting QB job locked up.

He also kept using the words "both of them" and "either of them", indicating he's only even evaluating 2 guys... or he would have been saying "any of them".  I think we all know who those 2 are.

Isadore better be getting a fair shake at this thing. Fine, from my vantage point, has done nothing to lock up a starting job. Shanbour, like Isadore, is a wild card and don't really know what you're going to get until they're out there...Best QB that gives the team the best shot at winning should be QB1. If Fine is our best option, then this staff really needs to sign 15 QB's. Hell, 5 a class until 1 sticks to the wall.

You have to be joking.  This is a kid who couldn't win the job at Angelo State.  He then goes JUCO after not being able to win the Division II Angelo State job, then comes here...where he can't compete with the thin QB lineup we have.

He's just another Division II, at best, prospect.  He wasn't even recruited by FCS schools as a prep.  He's a big kid and can probably toss the ball really far.  But, that's not football.

In law school, we had a classmate on our flag football team who could stand flat footed at the goal line and throw the ball 70 yards.  He was a Navajo kid from Arizona.  Never played football in his life, but was just a big, strong kid.

It's fine to be a big, strong kid.  But, football in an era of timing offense, as it is these days, a big, strong arm doesn't mean as much as it did when Ken Stabler and Roger Staubach were playing.  Hell, it doesn't even mean as much as when Troy Aikman and Dan Marino were playing.

To me, a kid like Isadore, whoever was his influencer at home screwed up:  should have had him in baseball pitching.  The days of QBs just being big and strong are long gone.  What they need to be now is big and accurate.  And, if the big part is missing...he needs a hell of a WR corps making up for him.

Those 2 guys have been healthier than Izzy and had more time in the offense than Izzy..

they should have a leg up on him, the question is does Izzy keep progressing and impressing

He's running out of time.   I hope when the final depth chart is released, and he's not on the 2-deep, that he doesn't throw in the towel, but practices harder.   I want the guy to succeed.  And like I was saying, with Fine & Shanbour's size/injury history, he could likely be playing.  He needs to be ready.

He is only running out of time for the 1st snap of the year.. Fine won't stay healthy and Quinn has gone from nothing to something without ever playing in a game while Izzy has played in games.

SL and GH are not going to block Izzy if he shows promise and talent, while Fine struggles.. they had a quick leash last year and it should be the same this year.

IF Fine struggles, I agree.  Just don't be surprised to see Shanbour trot out there ahead of Izzy in that case.

Fine has struggled.. and it will likely continue.. it's not about IF, it's about WHEN

And I would not be surprised, if Quinn was the #2.. but Izzy is has traits that are more appealing than Quinn.

You have to be joking.  The kid didn't win the starting job at Angelo State as a true freshman.  Big deal.  How many true freshmen do this?   Have you seen him play/practice?  If not, you  make a lot of assumptions about his ability.

Mason Fine won a starting job as a true freshman

You are correct, but what were our choices?  Most freshmen come in, sit or get red-shirted, and play a year or two down the road. Stating Isadore couldn't cut it is a bold assumption without knowing the real reason he left Angelo State.  All I am stating is that he should be given a fair shot just like anyone else.

SL is saying Fine is going to be special.  He's been saying that since last year.  He's not saying that about any other QB...

Now "going to be" is still just potential and SL clearly wants to win now.  Getting two guys ready last year helped get us to a bowl game.

Yup.

I hate bad QB play, so I am a hater.

Wish you knew what you were talking about.  Find me a TRUE freshman who made plays Mason made, with the shat line he had and the WR.  I really wish sometimes I knew what you did for work so I could blindly criticize you (obviously knowing nothing about your line of work).

Oh, so in your expertise opinion...It was good QB play? Locked in starter material?

Way to deflect.  But yes what we got on roster, Mason damn sure better start or it'll be worse than what you think we got.  Mason does stuff people done realize won us games last season, even if I take was as simple as not forcing throws he thought he could make but didn't bc coaches asked him not to.
