I am curious to know what you guys think....

So I was thinking about how Mason Fine's freshman year measures up to the likes of UNT Great Scott Hall's freshman year.  I know in some ways it was apples to oranges comparison because of different offenses, eras, team composition, etc.  But, how does the two measure up side by side. Stats alone, it seems that Mason Fine had a better start then my personal favorite QB Hall. Could this mean good things ahead?!?!?!?!

SCOTT HALL

Try comparing Mason to Vizza or Riley Dodge for a much better/fairer comparison. Mason had a good year but he wasn't the best freshman qb we've had, not even close.

While I would agree that Vizza could have been something special for us, the reality is he didn't last long for us to really know. And we certainly didn't win with him.  I wanted to compare what we have to somebody who actually was a 'UNT Great'.

But, even when you compare Vizza to Fine, is Vizza that much better?

VIZZA

I think his point was Scott Hall was asked to do less as a QB with the running game Dickey had. Arguably, so did Fine because of Wilson/Ivery.

Could be great. Could be average

I agree that Vizza's #s were better than Fine's.   I certainly hope Mason has more dignity than Vizza.
Dodge was catching passes from Vizza during his freshman year.   Riley threw 2 passes his freshman season off trick plays.  One was incomplete, the other intercepted.   Not a good comparison.

Vizza was a tremendous talent and he was a natural born field general.  Dodge's complete and utter mismanagement of Vizza was one of the saddest chapters in my UNT fan experience.

I like Fine's leadership qualities and think he has a bright future here if he can stay healthy.

Riley received a medical redshirt for 2009 and was a redshirt freshman quarterback when he led us to victory against Ball State in 2009. I didn't know this was specific to true freshmen.
