This ranking was put up by a decently followed twitter account. I don't know much about the DL in C-USA east but this list seems pretty inaccurate to me. I do think LA Tech should be #1 (Jaylon Ferguson) but I don't think we're #9 bad. What do y'all think?

I think the 3-man front likely plays into his rankings.  That, and the Bryce English question mark.   I'd be more interested in seeing how this stacks up at the end of the year if English is who we want him to be.

The NT ranking likely stems from the unknown of English (as mentioned) but more so from the problems stopping the run and our opponents' success on third down last year. We love our guys and the coaches are hyping the DL but if we are honest, they must earn some respect.

I think the main reason that Texas College Football at this level has regressed the way it has--to where we had zero teams ranked at the end of the year--is due to the 7-on-7 craze and the spread offenses run at TX High schools. They don't practice enough hitting or for tackling. The best athletes are skilled offensive guys. And it translates upward. Nobody in the Big XII plays any defense these days, even TCU who has a coach who built his name on it. UT could, but their prima donna players didn't want to play as hard as was needed and their offense was pretty much the worst in the conference. A&M is the same on defense, as well as the AAC and CUSA schools. These TX FBS coaches just ask the defense to get a couple of stops and hope they score every time--see Art Briles, Kliff Kingsbury, etc...

I think the DL and the entire defense that SL has is gonna be asked to pretty much do the same thing--just get enough stops to keep us in the game.

Tell that to the following Players:

  • Joshua Wheeler
  • Dee Baulkman
  • Eric Jenkins
  • T.J. Tauaalo
  • Brandon Garner
  • Andy Flusche
  • Bryce English

I bet this guy would say that is not the case:

A twitter vote? Unless the people doing the voting are very, no extremely intimate with CUSA they have no idea whatsoever. I couldn't give an honest, unbiased opinion or ranking on this matter. I just don't know. I know our recruiting classes leading into this season haven't been stellar, but with transfers and JUCOS all over the place there is no way to tell unless you're following every team with precision.

Not sure way anyone thinks that NT should be ranked higher.   Two of three starters are gone and the dl was very suspect last year.   I think NT dl should be much stronger, however most outsiders are not going to have that view.   We are aware of players like Hamilton and English who we think are going to be really good, but every team is going to have players they think the same way about.

Outsiders are going to look at who is returning and how much they played and the honors they received.   NT is not going to fare well on that basis.
