This is a couple years old, but if gives a chart and spread sheet format of an average of 4 or 5 years recruiting rankings vs how they finished overall. Kansas finished the worst in the metric, averaging 48.9 spots below their recruiting on average. Navy outperformed its classes the best 57.6 slots better than their recruiting on average. The mean difference was 16.6 and the median was 14.8. So on average a 15 slot difference. But mathematically their is still correlation to recruiting success. Just thought it was interesting info.

Aggies and longhorns aren't looking too good on that list.  I did try finding a newer up to date list, but had no luck.

Navy outperforming is an anomaly. They run a system to do just that while having to fit and mold around their academic and measurables standards.

Yeaaaah, but honestly that makes sense still. Sumlin has had great classes and not done all that well. Same with strong.
