North Texas will begin the one-month countdown to the start of football season with Mean Green Mania on Wednesday, Aug. 2, when fans can pick up their 2017 tickets and get an early look at the team.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and food and drink will be available throughout. Fans will be able to pick up their season tickets, join the Mean Green Club, and have the chance to upgrade or purchase new season tickets. The team store at Gate 2 will also be open for fans to shop for Mean Green gear, and fans can also pickup free Mean Green yard signs, schedule posters, and refrigerator schedule magnets.

There will be a live radio broadcast and hourly raffles, including a drawing for the day's grand prize: a trip with the team for an away game.

Single-game football tickets go on sale beginning at Mean Green Mania, and season tickets for men's and women's basketball will also be on sale. Any fan picking up tickets or buying new season tickets will receive an 2017 Light the Tower gameday t-shirt.

The event will take place at the Apogee Stadium ticket office and concourse near Gate 2.

Festivities get underway at 8 a.m. when juice, coffee, muffins and Danish will be served. At 10 a.m., the cuisine will switch to nachos, popcorn, hot dogs and Beth Marie's ice cream along with limited samples of the new brisket sandwiches that will be available at Apogee's concessions stands this season.

At 9 a.m., the football team will hold a practice in Apogee for fans to watch, and at noon head coach Seth Littrell, football student-athletes and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and director of athletics Wren Baker will speak to fans.

Gainesville radio station KGAF 1580 AM will broadcast live from the Apogee concourse from 5:30 to 7 p.m., a show that will preview the upcoming season in multiple sports.

The event will feature inflatables and Scrappy for kids. And for the adults, from 4 to 6 p.m. it will be happy hour on the Apogee concourse.

Wish this was on a Saturday so I could make some of it.

No way to get there by 7pm for at least the last hour?

Maybe, I'm just being selfish and wish it was more convenient but I am glad they are making the effort.

Would like to see them do another one, but do an announcement a few weeks before the season and do this but include the IPF

Send the idea to Baker. Via twitter, social media is a powerful tool.

Already emailed him an idea about using the IPF announcement as a way to get people hyped up for the season...

IPF announcement then do an open house type thing at Apogee/Ath. Center showing what and where everything would be.. And hope that gets some more donations/MGC memberships/ season ticket sales... Basically do it similar to the Spring game (if that is allowed)

I'm planning to make the trek up from Carrollton. Planning to leave between 4:45 and 5:00. Should get there before 6:00 unless an 18-wheeler strikes a concrete barrier and catches fire somewhere in Denton.

Anyone going tomorrow?

I'll be there with the wife. Haven't been to Apogee since the spring game. I'm planning on being there by noon, so we can hear Baker and Littrell speak. I have yet to meet either. Should be fun.
