I get Sheffield.  They need to invest in the track program and give him the tools to be successful.  He has worked from behind the 8 ball every year and deserves to have the AD put an importance on track.  Plus, you won't find a better person or a better representative for North Texas. Good man.

Not sure I get the one for Kee.  It appears the program has either gone backwards, been in a uproar or treaded water while she has been here.  She needs to really up her game next year or shown the door.

Either terminate them or give them a new multiple year contract.  A no-decision decision by the AD.  Sheffield has not done much since he has been hc, but on the other hand his facilities are awful.  Not sure you are going to know anymore about his coaching after a year than you do now.   Kee's teams have been mediocre at best and full of controversy.   Have no idea why Baker would retain her.   Other than both seem to be at the low end of the pay scale.

Like Benford, Baker appears to just be kicking the can down the road.

In some areas, I can't really disagree. I think it's getting close to saying the university can retain WB as long as they choose to. Just don't let him tie in extension bonuses for himself. And don't let him backdoor into an excessive buyout for himself. As poor as athletics has been, no coach or administrator should be laxed in anything they do. 0 jobs, outside of Hedlund, should be safe. And the feeling that I often get is that coaches and administrators alike get awfully cozy here at UNT awfully quick.

This concerns me because it indicates financially based decisions especially pertaining to Kee.  There is NO reason we aren't more competitive in softball.  She blew it and she knows it but was able to get away with it.  All I can figure is we blew our wad on Litty and Mac2.

* RV, and Mac then add in the new competitive football coaching salaries (finally) and the 4-5 new upper AD office people lots of $$ we weren't normally spending.

But again, there are no financials involved here.  Not now.  Her contract was finished.  Letting her go would have cost nothing other than the time, travel, and (I assume) moving expenses involved in hiring a new coach.

Harry, your post does make me think of another possibility.  They are only paying Kee $62K a year.  Perhaps they want to be ready to up the ante and make a big hire at the position.  But they can't justify doing that this year with all the money they just threw at the McCasland hire, including the buyout.  Maybe they feel they have to let Kee coach one more year, then go big next year?

It's been said that the players don't like the softball coach and a reason that a # of them have quit or moved on. (Believe the UNT Daily had the article)

While I don't get it if the contract was up, by it's likely a keep the spot filled till WB can fill it.. I doubt it but maybe WBs choice to replace went someplace else or stuck where they were?

We can worry about WBs ability to fire because he hasn't fired someone yet, but he made a solid addition in GM to replace Benford.

Does anyone know when the buyouts for the coaches and RV are finally off the books?
