SO as far as I can tell, there are still three alumns who are golf pros right now.

Lets quickly check in.

There is Rodolfo Cazaubon, who was relegated from the Web.com tour last season and is now playing mostly on the Latinoamerica tour. Yes that is the guy who played in the olympics last year! He is currently ranked 33rd there in the order of merrit with two top 10 results, which he still needs to improve upon (the top 5 get automatic cards for the Web.com tour). But he should at least be able to skip a qulifying school stage. So far this is probably his worst yeaar since he turned pro in 2014.

Then we have Carlos Ortiz, who won the Web.com tour overall standings in 2014, and got relegated back down to the web.com tour last year after having the card for two years he had his second top ten result of the season last week and is currently 45th in the order of merrit. In order to get an automatic PGA tour card you got to end in the top 25. If you are among the top 75 you get a second chance at the web.com tour final, and your Web.com card is safe.

And finally we have Sebastian Munoz, who was promoted to the PGA tour for this year. He played some Web.com tour events, and even got a 2nd spot (and two cuts). The season didn't really start so hot on the pga tour, where so far the best is a 27th place and he is currently ranked only 198th in the fedexcup. He needs to finish in the top 125 to make the finals and retain his card. And he needs to stay in the top 200 to at least qualify for the web.com finals and have 2nd chance and guarentee the web.com card.

...however, Mr Munoz started todays PGA tour event (the Greenbrier) RED HOT, and for the second time this year, he has a lead, as he is at -9 after day 1, two shots ahead. Lets hope he fares better than last time.

Said that he almost thought the coach at UNT was going to pull his scholarship and then proceeded to win two CUSA championships.  Pretty amazing story.

Nice shout out by the on-air commentators to UNT alumns who are/were on tour.

That was good advertisment for UNT overall, which was mentioned several time on the CBS broadcast today.

Sebastian Munoz did his part, he shot a tough -2 today and remains leader going into the final day at -14, two shots ahead.

So at this point is clear that Sebastian Munoz did not make the playoffs of the PGA tour, and therefore did not directly retain his card there. However being in the top 200 will qualify him for the Web.com tour finals. He is actually double qualified, as he is also 61st before this week on the Web.com tour which has its last week of its regular season this weekend

The Web.com tour finals are a second chance, as there are 25 more PGA tour cards up for grabs for 125 (126th -200th from the fedexcup and 26th to 75 from the web.com tour regular season, the top 25 there can play, but already have a card for 2018 secured).

Carlos Ortiz at the same time is also a shoe-in for the Web.com tour finals being 59th before this week.

Now to the current week: both of them played pretty well so far in this weeks Web.com tour event (the final one of the regular season). Sebastian is tied for 6th, two shots behind the leaders, Carlos is tied for 9th, three shots behind. If either of them could get to solo second or outright win this, they would likely would move into the top 25 of the Web.com tour regular season, which would get them a PGA tour card for next season. Otherwise, like I said its the 4 week Web.com tour finals to try to salvage a card. If not that, then it is the Web.com tour next year.

So, right now, the Web.com tour finals are having the third of four tournaments, and both Carlos and Sebastian made all three cuts, but made little money due to bad weekends in the first two tournaments.

The third tournament is however going well so far, particularly for Carlos Ortiz, who is currently tied for second at -7. If he were to finish anywhere close to that, he would almost certainly win a PGA tour card. Tied for second would also be a good payday (roughly 90k). But for that he will have to not have a bad round this sat/sunday. Sebastian is also still in the running this week, at -3 and tied for 20ieth. In a funny twist, they were actually playing in the same group on thursday and friday.

So much talent in DFW that is getting overlooked and not recruited

lol wow they have a kid that went to Cedar Park, listed as from Cedar Hill on their roster.

Saturday/Sunday didn't go well at all, they both ended up tied for 39th. Now they will need a really good result (probably top ten or better) to get a PGA tour card, or else they will be on the Web.com tour next season.

Sadly enough, neither Sebastian nor Carlos ended up getting a PGA tour card (in Carlos case it was quite close, two shots better would probably have done it). They will both be on the Web.com tour next season when UNT will not have an alumn on tour for the first time in three years.

At the same time Rodolfo Cazaubon is still trying to move up from the Latinoamerica tour to the Web.com tour. Thi week is going extremely well so far, as he leads the breasil open after day 3 by two strokes.A single win wouldn't get him the card, but it would be decent money and get him a lot closer.

And Rodolfo had a nice final day and did win the Brasil open. That was worth 40k, and got him to 9th spot on the Latinoamerica tour. He needs to finish top 5 to move up to the Web.com tour, but he is now in striking distance.
