Also very interested to see how we incorporate the TE's this year. This could really help  if they continue to progress

Yep, Chumley, with his size and athleticism, could be dominate.  Would also like to see Kelvin Smith better utilized.

Even with this revamped offense we are going to see a steady stream of 8-10 in the box until we can prove otherwise.  My hope is that even if the offensive line is not our strength, we are getting better at blocking for this offense.  We just need a couple of key plays that can force the defense to loosen up and that will open things up for Wilson and company.  I really think the swing pass could be a key play in that particular regard.

10 in the box? Lol Whoever our QB is better pass for 10,000 yards if these are the alignments he'll be reading

I'm going to say "the TE / Slot position" (Kelvin Smith / Caleb Chumley).

Either/Both of these guys potentially will have a huge year.  At least early in the year, I think our QB will need to get rid of the ball quickly.  I see a lot of quick passes going to these guys.  Hopefully they will help to force defenses away from 8+ in the box along with blitzes (which I think we'll see a lot of early).

Yeah you gotta count on at least half our passes going out to our patented RB swing pass.

Mark my words, the swing pass will be to Seth Littrell what the draw was to Dickey

In a typical Air Raid offense, you're looking at 25-30% of your completions going to the backfield. We're right on par with that.

What routes from the backfield does is spread the defense horizontally. You've got a route coming from the backfield (and I don't mean specifically swing passes) from your RB or your H-Back like Kelvin Smith or Chumley. A crosser from the opposite side of the field, and a sideline/corner route. Got yourself a triangle concept. So hit a big route with Wilson in the flat/wheel route/whatever. Defense adjusts. Hit a big route with a crosser or down the sideline.

So essentially the defense has sidewinders comin at them from every direction, and they'll just have to pick their battles as we pick them apart.

Well hopefully we actually run the play like that. Seems like there's two options when they flare the RB out in motion. Swing pass or QB draw. I don't think we saw anything else come out of that all season long

Yeah the playbook was limited, so we didn't see much variety. You could call the play from the stands just from the alignment, so I figure MTSU and Army had plenty of reads.

You know exactly what I mean by that.  Fine had pressure coming before the leather hit his fingertips last season and the defenders were draping on the WR's.  I hope you are right but losing Rice etc makes me wary.

We all better hope the breakout player is the left tackle or the right tackle.

I mean yeah. But you guys assume that whichever QB is starting, assuming it's Fine, will be good and we'll be winners so as long as there is an improvement in passpro. History at UNT says it's not going to be that easy.

I know what you meant though Harry. I was trolling a bit.

Bussey & Guyton will have big years because of the versatility that Chumley and Smith bring from a formation and alignment standpoint.

Nic Smith as an all-purpose player will eclipse 1,000 yards.

Riley Mayfield will be the unsung addition on offense who helps solidify offensive line play to a solid "B" grade, enabling better and more skill player production.

Rod Young on the defensive line. Reffet's scheme will create some tremendous chaos for opponents' blocking schemes, and Young will lead the team in TFL.

Khari Muhammad in the secondary.

Darden as a return specialist.

Dear God I hope you are right.

If our line/QB play doesn't improve we're looking at another 4-5 win season

No one has actually said it yet but I believe that Jalen Guyton will have the most impact.  I expect him to be the leading receiver this coming year with yardage in the 1,000 range despite the fact that I expect some pretty good numbers out of Bussey and Smiley.

I hope so.  Our highly rated transfers in the past, Stradford and Terrell, haven't performed better than what we had in place.  I hope Guyton is as advertised and more.

I'll take Connor Means and I have no idea why, like the kid met his family, and think he can play a little bit.  We shall see.

I'm interested to see how they'll use him. Good size and athleticism. Says he's an RB on the roster but they could flex him out too?

I think you'll see him as more of a short yardage back, but I always loved his running ability when he played QB.  I think he could play RB for us in Empty personnel as well.  We shall see if I'm seeing college athletes in same way college coaches are.  Hardest part of coaching IMO is being able to project and be accurate with what other coaches see.

Yeah he would(theoretically) be great at the goal line. We have so many damn former QB's on the roster we could run some crazy trick plays lol

GMG24 beat me to my naming my break out player for the 2017 season.

I am picking Conner Means too, 24!

Why- I watched Conner in the spring game warm up's. I was very impressed with his athletic talent,

his fluid route running, and his skills catching the ball. I was thinking at that point, man, Means can be a very

good WR. I wish the staff would move Conner to WR.  My wish may have come true.

I spoke to SL at the Dallas Caravan. During our conversation, I asked specifically about Conner moving from the RB position over to the WR position.

SL was reading my mind. Seth said yes, Conner will be a WR this season. SL stated "He will play"!

I will be watching for special offensive sets with Conner out on the field at WR. This will happen!

Outstanding!

we can throw from any position....running back, bubble screen to the wide-out and let it fly...

Hard to be good at the receiver position at UNT last few years... Terrell would have had Guyton level expectation in this system.

My breakout player of the year is a healthy Chris Miles. Post recovery I think he improves our line a good bit.

Terrell's last year was the first HOD Bowl game, if memory serves me correct, with Thompson at QB.  He ended the year about 4th on the team in receptions.
