Vito divided the offense up into groups - quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, etc.   It is too bad he lumped the entire defense into one group.   There are lots of outstanding players who got left out using this system.    It could have been down linemen, linebackers, and defensive backs in my opinion.

Really this list should be broken down into different position groups, because each position group has enough standouts to warrant it:
Defensive Line:
Joe Greene
Brandon Kennedy
Cedrick Hardeman
Walter Chapman
Bill Bishop

LB:
Zach Orr
Craig Robertson
Byron Gross
Burks Washington
Cody Spencer - I like Spencer a little better than Kassell, but take your pick here.

Secondary:
Jonas Buckles
JT Smith
Bill Brashear
Spider Lockhart
Leonard Dunlap

A very good group of picks.  Vito just got tired, I guess.

 Marcus Trice

Always grateful for that amazing senior year, but his junior year was less than spectacular.  I can't see elevating Trice to a top 5 based upon that one great year.

Spider Lockhart has to be in the top five safeties.  The problem with these lists is they always favor more recent players.

Thanks for pointing out my oversight.  I agree and have made the change.

I am glad @UNTLifer mentioned Chris Hurd.  Went from an un recruited walk on to the Defensive MVP of the entire conference.

Linebacker U.    We've been extremely blessed at that position ever since I've been around.
LB and RB.
