C-USA Announces Preliminary Television Schedule For 2017

Eight North Texas Games Scheduled To Be Broadcast Nationally This Fall

IRVING, Texas – Eight North Texas football games will be broadcast nationally in 2017, Conference USA announced Wednesday. The current schedule features games to air nationally by all four of the league’s primary television partners, with additional games to be added prior to the beginning of the season.

National games will be broadcast on traditional linear television this season on ESPN Networks, CBS Sports Network, STADIUM (formerly ASN and Campus Insiders) and beIN SPORTS.

Additionally, there will be a significant number of games that will be made available through streaming and through social media entities such as Twitter and Facebook Live.

“C-USA Football will be available this season on a number of platforms through our valued television partners,” said Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod.  “We look forward to an exciting conference season that our fans will be able to follow throughout the fall.”

North Texas will kick off the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, when it hosts Lamar at Apogee Stadium. The Mean Green’s first nationally-televised game will be the following week, Saturday, Sept. 9, when they travel to face Metroplex rival, SMU, at 6 p.m. on ESPN3. Other nationally-televised games released by the conference thus far include a Sept. 16 non-conference tilt at Iowa, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2, the C-USA opener against UAB from Apogee Stadium on beIN SPORTS at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, a road contest at Florida Atlantic on Oct. 21 on ESPN3, home dates with Old Dominion on Oct. 28 and UTEP on Nov. 11, both of which can be seen live on ESPN3, a non-conference game against 2016 Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl opponent, Army, on Nov. 18 in Denton on beIN SPORTS, and the regular season finale at Rice on Nov. 25 on ESPN3.

The 2017 C-USA Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 2 is scheduled to air on either ESPN or ESPN 2.  It marks the 13th-straight year that the C-USA Championship will air on the ESPN Networks.  ESPN is also scheduled to carry all six of C-USA’s bowl games in which it has a guaranteed selection.

Additional Conference USA football television exposures will be released as soon as they are finalized.

No TV for @Iowa is disappointing.    Thee of our four TV games are at Apogee, just shows what a great G5 venue for TV it is.

The Iowa Game will be televised under the B10's TV agreement, not CUSA's.

Happy that UNT got multiple broadcasts on beIN, they seemed solid last year from what people said. ESPN3 while not great, it's will have to do and potentially helps us get a viewing audience as well. Interesting about Twitter and Facebook because they are big platforms for social media, and could draw a nice viewing audience as well since both platforms are free to use and view with no need for cable plans either.

Is EPSN 3 really a national broadcast?

I am with you. Although technically a national broadcast, this not a true one with national broadcasters calling the game, etc. My guess is that it does not pay well either... BUT, this is better than nothing, and is still a valuable way to continue to get UNT football exposure to the public.  We have enough alumni that if most would tune into the game, the television networks would scramble to sign more true national games in the future. It just boils down to viewer head counts for them.
