Too much dependence on petroleum.  Too few tax-payers who are willing to support education.

Louisiana is a very poor state.  There just aren't enough taxes being paid in general to support too much.  Frankly, they have way way to many colleges for their size population.  The population of DFW alone far exceeds the total population of the state.

I think many people involved in higher education in Louisiana would agree with you.  However, the closing of a school is a tough sell.  Even Louisiana-Monroe has alums that would kill to keep that place open & funded.

They would be smart to divert some of the money made off of their riverboat casinos to higher education.
