Seems like Cooley is reading my posts as his. 😂 My comparison to Forrest Robinson was pretty dead on, as was ppg averages and the prediction that the last staff could never develop Brice.  A

The team did not perform for the last 5 years...im fine with the turnover...bring in New players, let old ones leave that didn't develop...no big deal to me

I really felt like Brice could be developed.  An athletic 7'1" player won't have difficulty finding a home.  I wish him much success.

Brice was a highly anticipated recruit but never lived up to his billing, in my opinion. Surprisingly ineffective rebounder for his height. Brown was support personnel and his scoring actually fell off from his freshman year. I would be surprised to hear McCasland begged either one of these guys to stay. Especially considering he already brought in more guys than we had roster spots for. This is much needed and welcome. Honestly with the exception of Lawson and Woolridge I'd be okay with seeing an entirely new team.

Neither Brice or Fuller fit an up tempo style of play.  We could use another 6-8 or 6-9 long body that can get up and down the floor, play D, and rebound.

Brown was a terrible shooter and distributor--definitely not a loss for the new staff. Brice made an impact defensively but, eh.

Heard through the grapevine earlier that Brice and his parents had decided for him to leave a while back.  I talked to him at the green/white and he seemed excited to stay...who knows the real story.  He might blossom at a smaller school.

Again... Thought it would be Fuller leaving... Not Brice. We just have to trust that an intact coaching staff knows what's what. I wouldnt be surprised to see fuller go at this point either.

Brice is a fantastic kid.  For that reason, I hate to see him leave.  But, in my opinion, he simply did not live up to expectations and his playing time seemed to decrease as the year went on. His leaving was pretty much expected.  Too bad as you can't "coach" someone to be 7'1".  Here's hoping our Russian transplant can fill the void.

Brown? Well, I think we have some better guards on the way.  

Interesting how fast McCasland is remaking the roster.  Hopefully, it will turn out to be a good thing.  We shall see.

My expectation of Brice after watching him in high school was that he wouldn't be an impact guy until his junior year. Hate to see him leave. Benford gave up on him too soon. Never liked Brown's game and while we are at it, isn't it time for GWP to graduate early? Is Fuller homesick as well?

I would trade Pittman and Fuller for Brown and Brice in a heart beat. Maybe both have greatly improved after sitting out last year. 

So here is what we have returning?

Woolridge, Lawson, Tamara, and Holston (only players who are on scholarship and touched the floor)

Fuller and Pittman (redshirted)

Bryce Jackson and DJ Drapper as walk ons. 

Essentially that's four players who played any real minutes. That also leaves 7 scholarships of which we have filled 6. 

Am I correct Cooley?

I would not assume that there will only be one more addition.

I am just assuming that for now. Pittman and Fuller may still leave which will open up 3 spots. I am just wondering when the roster will be finalized.

Assuming there is one spot left what do we need most?  Juco or high school?  Post or guard?  If there was a pure 3 shooter out there I would take him even if juco.

I thought maybe the one spot we have open (as of now) would go to a Arkansas State transfer.

For as much pressure as Grant wants to put on the ball we could probably find a defensive ball handler. Someone who excels on D and gets to the rim on O not necessarily a great shooter. Although I wouldn't mind another paint protecter body. A guy who could get defensive boards and provide solid post D.

      JUCO players will have 4 years NCAA eligibility remaining

      Not trying to sound like too much of an ass but I'm starting not to care how it impacts high school kids. Many of these are the same kids that you will give a chance to and then they have a good season after one or two years and leave. So if rightly so they are looking after what is best for them universities should be looking out what's best for them and recruit players who are most ready to step on the field and help them play. PS also have an issue with some of these high school coaches who complain that colleges are not recruiting their kids as much but don't seem to want to bring up the fact that those same kids if they're giving the opportunity will leave a smaller school without hesitation if something better comes along for them.

      I had heard one opinion that players is eligibility ran out and are no longer in schools could have a recourse to try to regain some eligibility. This is freaking ridiculous.

      Morris Announces Defensive Staff Hires

      Mean Green add four coaches to defensive staff room For more information: Doug Waters, doug.waters@unt.edu, (936) 240-6780 DENTON – UNT head football coach Eric Morris has announced the hiring of four coaches to the staff on the defensive side of the football. The Mean Green have added Reggie Johnson (Inside Linebackers), Greg Richmond (Defensive Ends), Julian Wilson (Defensive Backs) and Ike Eguae (Defensive Tackles) to the staff. “We are extremely excited to add these guys to our defensive staff,” head coach Eric Morris said. “They bring a ton of knowledge, experience and passion to our coaching room. I can’t wait to work all of them as we look to continue to compete for championships here at North Texas.” All four coaches join the UNT staff after spending the 2024 season at Sam Houston working under new defensive coordinator Skyler Cassity. In addition, current Interim Defensive Coordinator Brian Odom will return for a second season. He will now coach outside linebackers and nickels. A 25-year veteran, Johnson joins the UNT staff after coaching linebackers at Sam Houston in 2024, helping the Bearkats finish the season 19th in FBS in total defense. Johnson’s resume includes coaching in 11 bowl games, including trips to the 2005 Gator Bowl, the 2006 Orange Bowl, the 2010 Sugar Bowl and the 2011 Cotton Bowl. Prior to his time at Sam Houston, Johnson spent four seasons coaching linebackers at Missouri State, helping the Bears to the 2021 MVFC Championship and their first appearance in the NCAA FCS Playoffs in 30 years. Richmond also comes to UNT with a wealth of experience with nearly 15 years of collegiate coaching experience. At Sam Houston in 2024, Richmond helped the Bearkats finish 16th in FBS in fumbles forced and second in Conference USA in sacks. Prior to his time at Sam Houston, Richmond was the defensive line coach at Oklahoma State from 2018-22, producing a pair of First Team All-Big 12 defensive linemen and helping OSU rank among the national leaders in tackles for loss three straight seasons. Wilson joins the staff as the defensive backs coach after serving in the same role with the Bearkats in 2024. Under his watch, Sam Houston finished the regular season ranked as the No. 10 passing defense in FBS and led C-USA with 12 interceptions on the year. Wilson was the defensive backs coach at Abilene Christian in 2022-23 and served as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech from 2020-21. Wilson was also a dynamic defensive back himself, spending three seasons (2015-17) in the NFL with the Chiefs, Ravens and Vikings after a stellar collegiate playing career at Oklahoma from 2011-14. Eguae has been the defensive line coach for Sam Houston each of the last two seasons and will coach defensive tackles for the Mean Green. He has helped the Bearkats finish second in C-USA in rushing defense each of the past two seasons. An 18-year coaching veteran, Eguae also had prior stops at Stephen F. Austin, Fort Hays State, Pittsburg State and Coffeyville CC. In his one year at SFA, Eguae coached a pair of FCS All-Americans on the defensive line and helped the Lumberjacks earn a spot in the FCS Playoffs for the first time since 2013. -- GMG --
