http://www.scout.com/college/arkansas-state/story/1713535-tikhonenko-commits

Tikhonenko, who has been in the United States for two years, plays what he calls a stretch-4 and sometimes the small forward spot. This past summer he played for Russian U-16 team and practiced with the U-18 team.

He is the son of Valeri Tikhonenko, who won a gold medal with the USSR team in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, S. Korea. Like his father, who was drafted twice by the Atlanta Hawks, he is a deadly long-range shooter. His dad Valeri, who is now a general manager for a pro team in Spain, played professional ball in Europe and in Russia.

Obviously we can always put two big men at 4 & 5 and it doesn't matter, but wondering what true 5's we have besides Ricky Brice Jr...

Similar frame as Niko Stojiljkovic from a few years back.  Niko was nice, but never developed into a key contibutor.

Hoping Tikhonenko can take advantage of his bloodlines and turn into a force.  Probably needs to beef up a bit and add some strength.  Sounds like he had the option to play for sever P5 teams.

I wonder if NT has ever had 4 players 6'9 or over.   There will probably be some turnover, but NT now has freshmen Simmons 6'9 and Tikhonenko 6'10 scheduled to join the team.  Brice 7'1 and Temara 6'9 already on scholarship plus Combs 6'7 and a massive 6'8 Fuller.

That is a very very tall team.   The hope is that there is some athleticism as well.   Nothing worse than a floor filled with tall clumsy guys...

It is a guard conference and Cas likes to push the ball. I guess you never know !! GMG

Needs to take care of his academics. Was at prep school to get eligible and quit to go to Spain. Assume he's taking some sort of correspondence courses.

We have a Russian on the Tennis team and she is on the C-USA Commissioners academic Honor Roll  She could probably Tutor him if needed.

There wasn't a single America on the team a few years ago. They ran the kids zone at the football game and I ended up asking them all sorts of questions.

UALR's volleyball is almost all international. AState had the Sun Belt golfer of the week and track performer of the week. Both internationals.

Academic side of universities seem to like the internationals

To be competitive unfortunately they have to go all foreign, local school here has 2 Thai's, 2 Japanese, 2 China, 1 S Korean, 1 S. African.

The high 4* and 5* players won't come to the schools, in order to be competitive you need 4-5* players, or a 3* diamond in the rough who loves to play. To many American kids want the free ride and not the work. Tennis is a spoiled bunch on the American side for the most the part. Lama got a good one in Thoma.

*** so is someone hurt that I pointed out the fact on many American players as it relates to tennis? Having officiating for over 10 yrs, have seen the attitudes.
