This is a very solid Hire. Rick Pitino is known for his player development and that is due largely to how he uses his assistants... That is an incredibly important skill to have at the mid-major level!

First let me say congratulations on landing a truly outstanding coach, and hopefully his outstanding staff. UNT is a great fit for him.

It was posted on AStateNation.com that Pitino said  of the assistants that he has had move to head coaching jobs Balado was in the top three.Think there were 29 before Balado.

Had the NCAA cleared him of any wrong doing in time last year he would have had a real good chance of landing the job last year, although he may not have been ahead of your new coach on their wish list. North Carolina Central coach LeVell Moton was their top target this year, but turned them down.

There is not doubt that they got an outstanding coach and recruiter, but then again so did UNT.
