Roniger leaves men's basketball team

Sophomore point guard Scott Roniger has left the UNT men's basketball team for what he characterized as personal reasons.

Roniger started all nine of the Mean Green's games this season and leads the team in assists (32) and steals (13). He also averaged 2.4 points and 2.7 rebounds a game.

UNT coach Johnny Jones said senior Jerome Rogers and junior Marqus Mitchell will help fill the void Roniger left. Rogers ranks third on the team with an average of 8.6 points a game. Mitchell is averaging 5.7 points a game.

After watching last nights game,we need this kid back. Our point guard play was horrible. He can only go right. A kid at that level should be able to go either direction.

Jerome Rogers is experienced and can shoot. No, he is not big and is inconsistent, but this ain't Duke, we don't have three deep blue chippers everywhere. So if that is what you mean, no we don't have depth, but relatively we do. We can overcome a loss like this I believe, it's not like we are sending in Lance Boxell or Jeremy McFall in at PG.

Rogers was 3 of 12 last night with a couple of air balls. I am not sure how many turnovers, but only 2 assists. This is not quality point guard play. I know that this was IU, but they will finish in the bottom half of the Big 10 this year.
