I don't see how you can make 3 conferences out of 24 schools. In a perfect world the 5 Texas programs + La. Tech ,ULL,[ULM is pushed out] and Ark. State is a good start with 8 schools. However, I just can't see So. Miss. or any of the 3 Alabama schools wanting to go west. You need at minimum 9 programs, so NMST may be in play.It will never hapen anyway because it makes sense to combine these two bottom feeding conferences.

It's not three conferences, it's two:

-Ours has nine schools even without Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, or New Mexico State.
-The other has two divisions, North and South, to fit the geography of the schools in that conference.

My bad.I admit that I skimmed it. Still, what are your thoughts on degree of difficulty in getting La. Tech and schools east of Ruston to play in a Texas based conference should we ever get that far along in the process?

I think Louisiana Tech, if they could, would go back to their fellow conference mates of the AAC.  Other than that, I'm not sure what other options they really have.  The AAC left them behind when it formed.  Maybe they'd pick them up again.

If so, Us'n Conference would be at eight, but could fill the gap with Southern Miss or New Mexico State, preferably Southern Miss.

Still, with nine schools, three would be from Louisiana, plus Arkansas State.  It's a close call.  Maybe you throw in Southern Miss for a 10-team conference, to have five in and five out of Texas.

There are any number of ways to do it.  I just don't understand why it isn't done.  There really isn't much difference in the C-USA and Sun Belt schools as currently aligned.  The geography is really screwed up for them.

It's not like breaking up the SEC or Big Ten, so I don't know what the possible hold up is.
