C/O 2018 3⭐ Cornerback UNT Commit#SpeedDemon 😈🏈🤘

Per his Twitter Profile still a UNT Commit.  He ran a 21.8 in the 200 last night at the Area Track Meet.

The fact we are even in this top 5 is impressive, now lets go win the battle.

And our UNTGridiron page still has his commitment tweet posted, have to assume they'd take that down if he wasn't still "committed"

Yay twitter world.

I mean he just committed. We have to assume he's still committed. But just because he committed doesn't mean the staff can stop recruiting him. If anything, recruit him with more intensity because there is apparently some concrete interest there from a great athlete. The UH's of the world will try to feed him lip service when they try to use him as a fall back plan because whatever athlete they were recruiting bailed. It's inevitable. We need more players reaching out to committed/interested recruits, a la Bryce English. Not sure of the recruiting policy there, but I do not think that it is a breach and should be used as a big time asset all throughout the recruiting timeline, including the dead period...if feasible.

Again, I was just speculating and giving recent examples of similar situations. Whether he stays committed or not, there is clearly a long way to go on this one and this means we lead with him. That's the way I look at it, which is a good sign.

Also, there's a distinct possibility that the coaching staff asked him to delete the tweet to keep his commitment on the DL. Just saying, this staff has done that before.

Man, I just don't buy this.  With today's world and the fact that he is at a school who traditionally produces a few solid athletes each year, in DFW there is no keeping anything under the radar IMHO.

Since when did deleting a tweet equate in to decommitting?  Don't you think a few of you are jumping the gun?

Welcome to Denton, Mr. Gage

His commitment statement is down but his profile still says 2018 Cornerback UNT commit. Everyone is losing there mind for nothing. But Billy is right, we got a long way to signing day. Nothings changed he is verballed, and at least have a good chance at keeping the kid.

Yeah, no way. Everyone knows who he is. He is getting lower level P5 offers and just about every local G5 offer. Never mind how many FCS and below offers he has compiled. I hope this guy sticks. We need a couple early guys to create that all important good athletes wanting to play with good athletes recruiting momentum. When stuff like this happens early, it usually snowballs itself into a really good recruiting class. Granted the first 2 or 3 stick.

I think that its a positive at the very least.

He tweeted out he commited, then he removed it the commitment tweet and the UNT from his bio, and this morning he has it back up.

Seems like the kid took the stuff to heart about doing what is best for the player and not other people that are trying to impact your school.

If we can hang onto Mr. Gage, he will be a solid player for this staff.

Also, do we know who recruited him? They tagged guys on the offensive side of the ball but he tweeted at Coach Brown and his bio says CB.

It was rare for us to pull in a player from the DMN top 100, let alone the top 50.

That was the State Top 100, which the DaMN no longer does.  They now do an Area Top 50.

Just speculating, but it's quite possible he did this just to have a commitment on twitter and didn't fully consult his coaches/parents/mentors.

BillySee may have been onto something. Interesting tweet from Gage today. Happy to see the young man stuck to his guns (if in fact there was pressure from others to change his mind). GMG!

If there was pressure on him that isn't fair to him. Hope he sticks with us.

Also, it probably didn't hurt getting a congrats from Orr.

I have this feeling (as in no certain info) he wants to play CB rather than WR, which might be why we are ahead of a lot of schools who might have tried to sell him on WR so far. To me this is a good pickup no matter which side of the ball he ends up at.

Keep in mind we also have an offer out for his teammate.

If we got both these dudes, any Seth and co recruiting doubters would silenced IMO.  Two well known local kids, with multiple offers that we kept home.

I disagree. Gray has a decent offer list, but not one that currently would stand out among all CUSA signees. Gonna take more than two good gets. Definitely would be a step in the right direction. The key is showing he can do it consistently against the teams we compete against. Would like to think we are seeing the beginning of that.

Never given you a -1, value your opinion.  But he's added a Tulane offer.  Aren't these the kids we get pissed when we don't haul them in? 4-6 offers from D1?

Absolutely. But we need more than just two of these guys to prove we have really turned the corner in recruiting. We had Guyton and Cameron Johnson last year, who had similar offer lists. The issue was that that was it. The ability to get competitive pulls with more consistency is the key.
