Seems like I remember that LaDanian Tomonson was headed to Morth Texas before ending up at TCU.  Does anyone else remember anything about this ?

GO MEAN GREEN

Yes he said in interview he was headed to UNT but he choose TCU because UNT had turf at fouts and was worried it shorten his career.

He had two offers TCU and North Texas.  We honestly had a decent shot to land him.

With the internet and recruiting services colleges combing through Texas etc there just are not near as many chances to land players like this.  Not saying it can't happen but it has become much harder.  For example, back in that time there was no way a San Diego State would have spent as much money and time on a DFW player like they did on one of our targets this year.  Travel, logistics, budget and conference affiliation have all played a role.

Back in Dickey's day it seemed like TCU would bump up against us quite often.  Now that they are Big 12 you don't see it near as much.

Actually, there was a way...and they went even further east (NOLA), 7 years prior to LT.  But your point still stands: it's harder today because of the internet exposure.

They offered one of our kids super late this year, but you are right that doesn't happen as often.  Except for Des White still pissed about that one.
