Frazier still showing up all smiles is a good sign. He is sending a good message to his teammates. He could have easily just walked but he is still putting in his time with the team.

That's a great question. Imagine a first year coach inheriting Combs and Frazier. That's something to work with when they are healthy. 

 

On a side nite this game might as well already be over. Rice is shooting the ball and we are not. We are just passing it around until we turn it over, jack a brick, or get a offensive foul. Why we won't just shoot the ball is beyond me...

I saw he was done for this year but I don't remember seeing that his career was done. I could be wrong though. Most likely he is done since he was only on a half year but who knows what our new AD could pull. Crazier things have happened at bigger universities.

Also Brice was teched for bitching about a call. He now has 3 fouls.

Possibly, but it just felt right.  I noticed in videos posted online Wren is seated right next to UNT bench at the score table.  Is that his usual spot?

Every game. He sometimes listens in on huddles or sends the guy to his left in. Always takes notes.

 

7 minute mark and he isn't there anymore.

Because that's the way they've been coached.

On a run to close it to trail 33-20. Temera will be going to the line after the media TO. 6:50 left in the half.

Final media timeout of the half sees us trailing 41-25 with AJ heading to the line to try and complete a three point play. 3:40

The misery continues. Rice leads 75-57; 7:24.

They had an announcement about the CUSA championships for both men and women. How the announcer said come see both teams play without laughing....

It's exciting for our future when our Freshmen play so well. I'm happy for both of those guys.

Wren you missed a good basketball game, so did I and I was there.  It is beyond time to pull the plug.  We are out coached ever game and the other teams seem to have plays they run,  we play street basketball.  We shoot when we have no chance of making it.  Might work at the park but in NCAA basketball it does not cut it.  I moved back to Denton 4 years ago and his coaching has not changed a bit.  Wren he is a terrible coach.  I took a friend and felt bad he paid for a ticket.  I don't care it is now time for a change, let him go now and he can look for a job and we all win.  I would let Scrappy or Andrew coach this team before Benford.   Terrible, Terrible, BOO!  I don't blame the players because they are doing what they are coached to do.   I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with the Basketball program right now.   Looking at the high roller seats it looks like they are too.   The time for a change is now, not tomorrow. Wren do your job, we have no chance of making it to the tournament and if we some how got the last seed they send home in the first round with an ass kicking.   The players, the fans and students deserve better.  Fire him now!

He *should* have no problem getting a medical redshirt. He competed in 4 games, which is well under 30% of our games played.

      What is this program missing?

      IMO, the main issue is fan support. We have a very loyal core group with lots of fun things such as the canon, the Model T car, the "North Texas" chant ... but that core group is too small. Previous administrations spent decades tamping down any enthusiasm for sports at UNT, leaving it an after thought for many alumni. It would be much easier to recruit and high great coaches if we had 25k at each game and a community that really backed the teams. Suppose we had beat Navy, went on the beat Army, and finished the year with 10 wins. I don't think that would move the needle much for next year. It would be very difficult to have enough winning seasons to slowly build a winning tradition. Long story, short ... winning at football just isn't important to enough students and alumni. I will agree with others that having our own Boone Pickens would be a great benefit if they could give a lot and have patience. I just don't see that person walking through the door anytime soon.

      What is this program missing?

      Simple. UNT has never won the conference and doesn't have a signature win that captured the nation attention. No 2-10 Arkansas doesn't count. UNT also needs a Heisman Candidate to be the face of the team. It was ALMOST there with Mason Fine but it was squandered, opportunity after opportunity keep being missed. Until UNT has a marketable face of the team, actually take down P4 opponents and win the conference, the same story will keep repeating itself. UCF had Blake Bortles take them to the Fiesta Bowl and a big run followed by Milton McKenzie beating Auburn. Boise had Kellen Moore, Jared Zanbranski and others followed with wins over Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma, etc. Cincinatti had a 14-0 run to the Sugar Bowl followed by back to back undefeated runs with Desmond Ridder. Houston had a great 2011 run with Case Keenum where we beat UCLA and Penn State in a January Bowl Game. In 2009 we beat #5 Oklahoma State and Texas Tech back to back. In 2015 with Greg Ward Jr, we went 13-1, beat Louisville, Vanderbilt, ranked Navy, ranked Memphis, ranked Temple in the AAC Championship and Florida State in the Peach Bowl 2016, we had Ward back and Ed Oliver and beat Top 5 Oklahoma and Top 5 Louisville on National TV.

      I’m saying after watching primarily bad North Texas football for going on 27 years, that I’m pretty confident we’re not building a championship calibre program here. I know he’s not going to be let go but I think we’re probably wasting our time and continuing to jade our fans. Would love to be wrong on this. And in the time of NIL/Transfer Portal mercenaries, I think you can make a change pretty much when you want and rebuild a roster. Again, we’re not gonna do it, but we could.
