The forwards on the roster are:

  • Derail Green
  • Bryce Jackson
  • Khalil Fuller (Injured? Has not played a minute this season. Likely a redshirt year)
  • Rickey Brice Jr
  • Shane Temara

I wish Rickey Brice Jr was more developed but he's not*. He will likely get more minutes as a result of Combs' season ending. He turned an ankle a few games ago so hopefully he's back to 100% as he is needed now more than ever. He's been averaging 13.8 minutes per game in the 17 games he's played in.

Shane Temara is also someone who can score but is a different type of player compared to Combs. He's more of a hybrid 3/4. He's got decent size/height but isn't a big rebounder. Currently averaging 16.5 minutes per game and should play time increase. 40% of Shane's shots have been from behind the 3-point line where he is 12-36 33.3%.

Derail Green has started 13 out of 19 games. He'll likely be a starter from hereon out. He has averaged 22.4 minutes and 6.9 points per game. Both need to increase. Green is also more of a hybrid 3/4 type player. Two-thirds of his shots have been from behind the 3-point line where he is 27-77 35.1%, which is good for second best percentage behind Keith Frazier (7-19 36.8%) on more than 10 attempted 3-point shots. Green currently sits in 4th on the team in terms of points scored (131).

Bryce Jackson has played limited minutes as a Redshirt Junior. In 13 games, he has averaged 4.3 minutes and 0.9 points per game. I honestly couldn't tell you if the staff will use him more or not as he tends to only play when our forwards are in foul trouble or in clean up duties.

I haven't bothered to pay attention to whether Benford has gone with a four guard lineup much this season. It might be something they have to consider to try to fill in for Jeremy's loss of point production.

*This coaching staff has never done a good job developing bigs that are brought into the program.

Not sure that sitting Combs now, will not help the team.  He still had decent numbers, but he pretty much got abused under the basket and I believe he was a liability on the offensive side.  I believe whoever takes his minutes could be just as effective as an hobbled Combs.   Combs had a few flashes of prior year's play, but as hard as he tried he just lacked the quickness, explosion, and was unable to maintain the relentless that made him a special player.

Tamara has already shown a lot of improvement with more playing time.   Green is an outside threat that Combs never was and should not have been.   Time to see if Brice can play a much bigger role.

This team is going nowhere, I would not shelve the seniors; but I would give more time to the freshman and sophomores who all have potential.

What do we have to lose at this point?
