Just checked the recruiting rankings and see that 24/7 has us at #10 in the conference while Rivals has us at #5, and Scout has us at #4. I know they each have different methodologies but that big of a gap seems odd. Anyone have any explanation for this? Also, I don't see Rivals or Scout cited nearly as often as 24/7 anymore, are those two considered almost irrelevant now? I'll hang up and listen.

Their credibility is shot, IMO. Rivals still lists Michael Sewell and Josh Donovan as commits, as well as Devlin Isadore who is a PWO. Not sure about scout, but they lost credibility a long time ago for me. It helped when they hired Gabe Brooks, but more so for the coverage.

247's ranking is based on the composite scores, so it factors all major site ratings in. That's a huge part of why they're the most credible when it comes to rating. And they do the best job of covering the G5s IMO. Rivals is far behind in that aspect.

I guess that's my sub-question then: if 24/7 does a composite of Rivals, Scout, ESPN, and their own, does that mean they and ESPN have us in basically last place in the conference? Do they weigh their own rankings more heavily? Just seems like a larger gap than years past. I believe what you're saying about Rivals and Scout but hope they are right this time around.

Another thing that helps other schools is that they have enough subscribers, UTSA for example, to have a dedicated guy on the UTSA beat on the recruiting sites. Honestly GMG.com is a great free resource, but we don't get the same analysis from outside sources that want a pay wall to exist. Because of this I do think the evaluation aspect of our future players suffers some. I think we're getting better and better coverage, but we won't get the same level unless we band together and pay these people to pay someone to cover us.

just a question, what is your source that Isadore is a PWO that doesn't seen to fit?

I think you are right the use to be standard in recruiting ratings, Rivals has badly declined.  247 now has the composite ratings and has always been the most liberal with giving out stars, is now the go-to for at least the non-power schools.

247 does a ranking based on the composite scores of the individual commits. The class rankings aren't composites, the player ratings are. 247 averages every individual commit's ratings among the 4 sites, then ranks the classes accordingly. So 247's class rankings are not composite rankings based off of how all the sites ranks the classes, but how they rank the individuals.

So Donovan, Sewell, and Isadore count towards our rivals team rating, but since they are correctly not listed as commits in 247, they play no factor in our class ranking.

Isadore was never announced as a signing while Pahinui and Guyton were. Also, I thought Vito had confirmed. Either way, safe to say he is coming in as a walkon, at least this semester.

I get that, just seems like there is definitely an inconsistency on some of our recruits among the recruiting sites. Not to say that's uncommon, it just seems odd that the evaluations are so different that two sites have us top 5, while the composite has us in the bottom 5. Even considering omitting the players you mentioned,

I've checked all the sites for a few years now and this is the first time I've seen them off by this many spots.

I believe Vito did confirm that he is a PWO, with the chance to earn a scholarship in the Fall. If this is true, any benefit in waiting to give the ship?
