Best as I can gather, Jordan is a top 40 in Oklahoma, listed among 15 players on the others to watch from the preseason OK Top 25 list. Ardmore finished 10-3 his senior year, and MaxPreps lists Ardmore as the 17th best team in the state (unsure if that is classification specific).

He played in 9 games his senior year, rushing 46 times for 740 yards (16.1 avg) and 9 touchdowns. He also grabbed a couple of catches and returned his only INT for a touchdown. Jordan suffered a serious head injury in his junior year. The game stopped for an hour to stabilize him for a helicopter flight to OKC. He apparently recovered nicely with no ill affects. Not sure why he missed 4 games in his senior year.

Hopefully he will bring a Mason Fine-sized entourage from Ardmore!

6'0" 160 lb cornerback from Ardmore high school in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Also played running back for his high school. He has committed to us. Per his twitter, we are his only division 1 offers.

This has PWO or Blueshirt written all over it.

How does BS account against eligibility? Since he is not counting till next year does that give him 5 years at UNT plus 1 if he redshirts? Thanks

His scholarship will count towards next year's (2018) scholarship count. He's 1/25 for that year. The eligibility counter, from my limited understanding, starts the moment he starts at a school. Just like everyone else, he'll have 5 years to play 4. The red shirt doesn't add a year of eligibility, some people just play there 4 in 4 instead of five.

Correct. Blueshirting just pushes back where the initial counter scholarship is counted.

Wait, Pirtle blueshirted? Thought he was just a PWO. If that's true then he's on scholarship. Didn't realize that.

I will say, however, I like these developmental blue shirts a lot more than I like doing them in order to just make the roster work. To me, it shows that our coaches really like the kid, and are looking to develop the raw talent of the kid, but he needs a red-shirt year and some time in a college weight program to get ready. They are future minded, a lot of coaches in Litrell's situation are so worried about now they aren't setting up for down the road. I think these coaches will find a lot of success in a large scale red shirt and development based program.

Edit: "I will say I did learn that Pirtle was a blue shirt, I thought the kid was strictly a walk on. I'll be interested to see him play." WHAT I LEARNED NOW HAS TO BE UNLEARNED. THANKS BRETT.

Isn't a PWO basically a blue shirt, sense he gets a scolly the following year?

Nope. A preferred walk on just promises you a slot on the final roster. No guarantee of a scholly at any point. All that means is you'll make the team not that it will be paid for.

So basically, NT has given a deferred offer to a player with no other FB offers.  I hope he turns out great, but this is not reassuring that NT is making gains in recruiting.

One factor, I look out for in recruiting is how it finishes.   If NT is just filling spots at the end with borderline players or if they are getting some higher potential recruits that didn't get that P5 offer they were looking for.   In this case, they are using a 2018 ship for a player with limited options or if you prefer another "diamond in the rough" or "steal" type recruit.

I just hope NT has got some big signings to come, that they are protected by blue shirting other players.

From what I can find, this young man was really being followed by a number of schools until he suffered a head injury and missed a number of games.

The injury happened later in his junior year. He played his entire senior season after making a full recovery.

I thought he missed a few games this year?

Also, with this kids length and the depth we have at CB should allow him to RS. Seems to me to look like he has a Nate Brooks frame. Also, reading the link Vito put into his about this kid being the 37th ranked player in OK they say he had the ability to be ranked higher with more "elite" DBs.

37) JORDAN ROBERTS – Ardmore – Defensive Back

Ardmore defensive back Jordan Roberts could end up being higher on this list and up with some of the other elite defensive backs in the 2017 class. He doesn’t have the speed or quickness that some of the other defensive backs but his size is ideal for a cover corner back. His ability to tackle in open space also separates him from some of the other prospects in Oklahoma.

Doesn't have ideal speed or quickness but ideal size ... sounds like a safety.

He played running back and cornerback.  I wonder how much defense he actually played?  Perhaps this could be a diamond in the rough with focusing on one side of the ball.

Read an article on Roberts. He was a true two way player.

Cobbs was a Top 40 also, if he can  anywhere near that productive he is a steal.
