Buddy's nephew is good friends with him and he was talking about reopening his recruitment months ago.  TBH if he thinks he can find a better spot then we should give the scholarship to someone else all together.  He isn't really that athletic and we have many other positions of need.

Something else to think about is that SMU just lost a tight end to UT. So maybe that comes into play here? Another thing is about the recruiting ranking, if we go on anything other than the average, we're always going to be way behind. The ranking is basically a sum total of all the recruits. Because of the blue shirting, which payed off for the most part, we will have less recruits adding to the sum total. We will be short by five last I read. That doesn't move the needle too much, but it is worth mentioning. I wish the kid the best, but we have Kelvin Smith returning, Dillman coming back from injury and Chumley. There are recruits I would really hate to lose at this point, Lutz isn't particularly one of them.

I think dillman is on the defensive line now.

Lutz is a WR and had 13 catches ON THE YEAR.  What position was he going to play here?  What am I missing....??

If you read Vito's original article. There was some thought that he wanted to be a receiving tight end. He has most of the measurables but played in a run heavy system in high school from what i've read. Kid wants the ball in his hands (who doesn't).

Edit: Just saw his statement with vito. It was exactly that, he wants to catch the ball.

I always thought it was a bit weird to be recruiting a tight end for our offense.  I don't blame the kid for wanting to go elsewhere and not change positions.  We should be able to find a better fit for that scholarship.  Good luck to Lutz in his college career.

6'6 220lb tight end. The only position I saw in this offense was maybe the line with 50lbs put on.

Seems this would of been discussed up front?

We will continue to recruit TEs. They'll fit in the Y spot or H back spot nicely. They'll just always be flexed (not inline blocking).

Possibly he wasn't athletic enough to play the position, especially if they didn't think he'd work at DE or OLB.

215 is way slender, and should come with speed (relatively speaking).

No harm, no foul. The kid wants to play a certain position and we don't have a good fit for him. Wish him good luck in finding a school that won't require him to be flexible in his personal needs. Much better than him coming here, being miserable, and possibly affecting those around him.

We talk about Patterson at TCU.  This is what he does.  One analyst said on defense he moves people up one level: linebackers become defensive ends, defensive ends move to interior line positions.  My only question would be when did they start this discussion with him.  It does cloud the rating system.  His ranking is based on tight end,but we had no intention of playing him there.

The bigger question is why NT wanted him in the first place.  My guess is that NT is not upset at his decision.   Good looking athlete, but just not the right fit for NT.

IMO, NT has a lot more needed recruits; than a tight end to try to convert to another position.

Because of our bowl exposure & impressive fan support for a 5 win team at that bowl, might our interest in some players now be less than it was before the HOD Bowl?  Not saying that was the reason for this young gent, but will it be for others?
