Rudy I was making the point that in basketball we didn't play all top 50 teams, but people liked to watch OUR team compete and yes I know this is a FOOTBALL thread.

Also everyone on this board takes things personal or has to reply in combative ways, if I did in ya'lls opinion I apologize!

But what works for one sport may not work for a different sport.

All you scheduling geniuses should look at K-State, Tx Tech, Baylor, Ok State, Az State plus many more. Look at what Johnny Jones did, he only played a few

name teams and then a bunch of DII, SWAC, & Southland. The students and casual fans want to have a good time and if you want to get better teams support

with season tickets and attendance(MG club).

These bigger schools like those have no trouble recruiting in DFW and already play here with TCU. You would most likely have to go out the region. For a department that is tight on money, playing locally is a better draw and gets us in front of more players as well!

Does music and art really have that much of a stranglehold on the $? Surely Wren can do something?

IDK if music does, but you have to remember UNT hasn't had a very good program for alumni that give back like at other schools let alone have other sports outside of football come close to breaking even. Also, the lack of some degrees hurt the school. They recently just started up a Sports Management degree, and they are looking to expand into more sports orientated degrees which I think will help as some of these kids are looking to get into coaching/ sports careers.

Remember, the Music School has been immensely successful for a very long time.  They bring national & international recognition to UNT.  They've earned the support they get from the University.  Athletics needs to earn that same level of support.

RV did not do a good scheduling job with the new stadium.  People aren't going to come to see us beat down (hopefully) Incarnate Word and Houston Baptist.  Only hardcore college football fans know that Abilene Christian is a good program.   Lamar is a large school but how many people know that?  I would much rather seen Texas State, and Sam Houston replace Incarnate Word and Houston Baptist.  Texas Southern would been a better (FCS) alternative also.  Right or wrong we need to schedule play teams with name recognition from casual fans living in Texas for the best attendance.  Rhode Island isn't a great get for the schedule but they have a 'state' name that would indicate they are one of the largest institutions in that state.  A casual fan might even think Rhode Island is FBS.

I may be wrong but didn't they recently fire their head coach?

Yup...Ken Collums out after a 2-9 season in 2016 and 3-8 in 2015.

New HC won three national titles at D2 level, and ACU's new football stadium opens in September.
