FCD was easily the best team in the league this year. The absences piling up was just too much, the most devastating of which to Mauro Diaz was directly caused by Seattle recklessly chopping him down (without consequence) every chance they could get in the second to last week of the season. Seattle was then the direct benefit of this against Dallas in the conference semis. I wish Toronto had won 70-0.

Seattle Sounders win the MLS Cup without one recorded shot on goal for the entire game.  Odd.

Did I hear correctly...that it's the first championship game for that to happen?

I love those soccer scarf things and wish they would make their way to football fandom.

They sell soccer style NorthTexas scarves at the bookstore.

Barf is about the nicest thing I could say about the Sounders.

I really wish MLS placed more emphasis on the Supporter's Shield and that US Soccer made a bigger to-do about the US Open Cup. Dallas won the league and ought have had more attention heaped on them.

The final was a terrible display on a marquee stage for MLS...timid play and just League-One-long-ball after League-One-long-ball. I'm sure MLS wishes that Montreal/Toronto tie would've had the same number of international eyeballs on it...that was fantastic cup soccer...both in terms of play and atmosphere

all that said, I am happy for Seattle. I think they've been one of the better run MLS franchises...investing both domestically in academies and youth development and shrewdly on the international market...players like Nico Lodeiro are exactly who MLS franchises need to be targeting.

Sorry, I'm not happy for them.  Just more fuel for one of, if not the most whiny and entitled fan base in MLS.  I do, however, have a lot of respect for their atmosphere and attendance numbers.  And I am still very confused about the initial post from Rick here. Surely you're an FCD fan right, @FirefightnRick?

LOL...Yes.  I took the family up to visit some of our Microsoft alumni in Seattle two summers ago.  The scarf and hat were a gift cause they're season ticket holders and know I don't follow soccer that much.   I just thought it interesting that I have a rare photo of myself in soccer attire of the team that won something.  Come to think of it, the last pro soccer game I ever attended was a Dallas Tornado game in the 70's.  But yes, if FCD or the lady Mean Green are ever on tv I'll watch and hope they win.

What is this MLS you speak of?  Is it a real sport?

Just kidding.  The MLS has gotten much better the last few years.  The league needs to stop loading up certain teams hoping for success, which makes FCD's run all the more impressive.

I get and realize it probably would never happen because I don't think the average American sports fan would like it and embrace it but with this sport I would much rather prefer eliminating the ridiculously stupid playoff system and just do it like the Euro leagues and award the champion to the team with the best record/most point at season's end.

FCD games are a blast...only been to two including the US Open cup game this past season but it was so great.  I've considered getting season tickets but I'm definitely much more interested and have started following the league more closely & the players etc.  It's a really nice and fun brand of soccer and nothing like it was in the 90's early 00's.
