Below is the the MGRN video highlights of our New Years Day, 2014, Heart of Dallas Bowl game versus the Mountain West Conference UNLV. 

My favorite offensive play in this game was at 3:23 in the YouTube video.  Was it any of yours? :)

If the Cotton Bowl still had its old capacity of 72,000 we would have filled over half of the stadium for this game.  After its expansion in their bid to keep the Texas/OU game the new capacity would be its present 95,000.   Even at that size our HOD Bowl game crowd on that 2014 New Years Day was very, very loud.

Please, please, please....no intent of melodrama here, but this is why this game is important to so many of us because it just takes us back to our own innocent & simpler times when we were 18, 19, 20, etc.   Whether we'd admit it or not, many of us older alums live thru the vigorous young men such as the ones who will be on the floor of the Cotton Bowl wearing Green & White along with Old Army Gold & Black.  

Like Terrance Mann aka the great James Earl Jones said in this famous movie clip about baseball you could easily insert the word football.  Baseball, football, soccer, swimming, etc., are all a bigger part of us than we might ever believe.  Besides supporting our favorite college's football team, there are other things I believe to be in play that will have us coming to the Cotton Bowl Stadium on Tuesday, December 27'th, & toward the top is:  WE LOVE OUR GOL'DARNED COLLEGE FOOTBALL!?⚡️☄️??

What I loved about the 2013 team/2014 HOD Bowl was how our defense played. Teams got tired of being hammered and started to give in the second half. Ball State and UNLV are perfect examples. Ready to get back to that type of D.

      What is this program missing?

      Simple. UNT has never won the conference and doesn't have a signature win that captured the nation attention. No 2-10 Arkansas doesn't count. UNT also needs a Heisman Candidate to be the face of the team. It was ALMOST there with Mason Fine but it was squandered, opportunity after opportunity keep being missed. Until UNT has a marketable face of the team, actually take down P4 opponents and win the conference, the same story will keep repeating itself. UCF had Blake Bortles take them to the Fiesta Bowl and a big run followed by Milton McKenzie beating Auburn. Boise had Kellen Moore, Jared Zanbranski and others followed with wins over Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma, etc. Cincinatti had a 14-0 run to the Sugar Bowl followed by back to back undefeated runs with Desmond Ridder. Houston had a great 2011 run with Case Keenum where we beat UCLA and Penn State in a January Bowl Game. In 2009 we beat #5 Oklahoma State and Texas Tech back to back. In 2015 with Greg Ward Jr, we went 13-1, beat Louisville, Vanderbilt, ranked Navy, ranked Memphis, ranked Temple in the AAC Championship and Florida State in the Peach Bowl 2016, we had Ward back and Ed Oliver and beat Top 5 Oklahoma and Top 5 Louisville on National TV.

      I’m saying after watching primarily bad North Texas football for going on 27 years, that I’m pretty confident we’re not building a championship calibre program here. I know he’s not going to be let go but I think we’re probably wasting our time and continuing to jade our fans. Would love to be wrong on this. And in the time of NIL/Transfer Portal mercenaries, I think you can make a change pretty much when you want and rebuild a roster. Again, we’re not gonna do it, but we could.
