Baylor might get a defense. Got a perennial loser to back to back conference championship games. But, he lost the first one of those to Herman and not he get to play him annually!

They beat Navy this year. Last year they lost to Houston. I do think Baylor got a good coach. It's also interesting the Big XXI will have two coaches from the AAC next year.

his coaching record indicates he has something for sure.  My only concern would be that most of his ties are within the state he coaches in.  How that translates down here in Texas is yet to be seen.

He has some UT guys he can hire!

Rick - on what basis?

He took Temple from basement to a ranked team in 4 years.

Two 10 win seasons.

Beat Penn St last year.

Two conference championship games, winning one.

His defense is ranked third nationally.  They were incredibly disciplined in the Navy game last week.

turning a losing program into a winning program.....if that is what you want....tough as nails.  May take some of the video game action out of Baylor

I don't understand this logic entirely.  Temple was winning 8 - 9 games annually under Al Golden. Addazio went 9-4 in 2011 followed by 4-7 in 2012. When Rhule took over in 2013, they went 2-10 and then he went 6-6 in 2014.

Not discrediting the job that Rhule has done to turn around his record from 2013 and 2014, but Temple did not have a recent history of losing with regularity until Rhule got there.

Just one person's opinion, but this seems like a very strange hire for Baylor. The names "linked" to the job earlier (for whatever that is worth) like Anderson, Dykes, and Fedora make a heck of a lot more logical sense than this guy...

My thinking is he's young and a fresh face, which Baylor may have been looking for? I don't know.

But it'll be interesting to see if he retains any of the previous staff or not?  I'm guessing not but we'll see.

That makes sense. It just seems like a strange fit, but we will see what he can do. I did hear that Baylor was throwing around some crazy compensation numbers (in the league with what Texas on Tom Herman).

That would make sense... and be a great hire for Tech. Sonny seems like such a "fish out of water" in Berkley, CA.

If Seth can prove he can recruit and have an 8-3 or better next year, I could see TT going after him.

He has to prove he can recruit!

No ties to Texas, only 55 scholarship players back next year, plus outstanding title 9 issues.Other than being a preachers kid looks a square per in a round hole to me.

Made a WR do updowns on the sideline during a game because he did a solo celebration after a TD  without his team mates.

I've heard they are also kicking around the idea of bringing back their former running backs coach as head coach. And not the one from Cibolo either.

I'm trying to think . . . who was the last northerner to have significant success head coaching at a Texas university?

How do you define northerners? Does NC count?

Uh, no.  Mason-Dixon line.

I know Herman's a yankee too, but he has obviously established recruiting lines in the Lone Star State.  Rhule has done well in his home state, but he may find it tough going in Texas.

Names "linked" and actually interested probably differed greatly.
