That is great Wardly however you can't classify everyone not excited about attending this game as "fickle".  UNT is the only program I support financially whether professional or college.  Not excited is not the same as "bitching".  I think you would have liked another opponent also.  If you have the money and can take vacation day at relatively short notice more power to you.  I wish more of us did.  The first HoD Bowl should have had even more fans that it did because there was more to be excited about.  Even during the 1-11 season I wore my UNT stuff daily and attended half the home games during that dismal season last year.  It is counter productive to be attacking long suffering fans who care enough to even be on gmg.com to read these comments.  Save this critique for when we are coming off a 9-4 season and can't sellout the home opener against SMU the following year.

$50 and 3 weeks vacation notice should be within reach of absolutely everybody. If, that is, they are willing to make the effort.

So, let me see if I have this straight.  This isn't encouraging anyone to try to get free tickets?...

"Your aware you could claim to be a First Responder and have HoD mail you free tickets, when I Direct messaged them asking what proof they wanted, they said they just hope people are honest..."

What would you call it?  Letting them know the door is open, pointjng to it, but not saying they should step through?

I never told anyone to do it... and if people do its on their own free will.. LOL i'm able to get these tickets and I'm buying through the AD nor am i going to do whatever they offer for students either, never once asked for a military discount or anything during my service or after. Funny Story, I went up to West Point 2 years ago for my Branch to talk to the cadets, and flying home someone tried to pay for my meal and instead i turned it down and paid for there for the kind offer..

You can be mad and think I'm a bad person, but if you think people don't were going to try and do this anyway, you got a lot to learn.. also, I'm  going to doubt they run out of seats at the Cotton Bowl nor will it have a major impact on sales.

Also, I think a large/vast # of us on here would pay 50/75 bucks either way to see us in the HoD

also, if you look on the twitter feed, they will be given out tickets to Veterans as well..

It's called auto correct on my phone. Most typing mistakes are caused by it, Oh Great Ryan Munthe, the Keyboard Warrior.

So autocorrect corrects couldn't to could? Sure. Likely story. Just a coincidence that that's one of the most routinely made grammatical errors, right?

Just own your error and move on.

Wow! You're so smart because that's what happened. I have keyboards set for different languages as I speak multiple languages. I never thought my grammar on here mattered because I didn't think there people like you existed on gmg.com. I expected more from UNT alums than to whine and cry about grammar mistakes on a forum but then again I expected for UNT slums to expect a better bowl matchup (I mean, days ago we were talking Navy or Western Michigan but I guess settling is ok too). Now that I know you exist, I'll be more attentive when posting. I would hate for you to suffer through another one of these conversations.

Mike Jackson is probably right. I shouldn't be critical of supporters who are not excited about a rematch with Army. I don't like rematches as well. Having said that, this invitation is a gift to 5&7 UNT only because of the perception that we will support our program.By doing so it could open the door for future invitations when we qualify in the future. I was embarrassed for the conference watching Saturday's pitiful turnout at WK for their championship game against La. Tech and would hope for something better from Eagle fans.

Excellent post. Agreed 100%.

To put it in terms teens can understand, this is mowing 3 lawns, providing 5 hours of cheap babysitting or maybe 2 simple weed deals with people in your network. Get on it, people.

If you're like me, you spend your life dripping fluids everywhere you please anyway, so why not make bowl money for it?

There is time for 3 plasma donations - which could net you anywhere from $50-110.

You probably think this is a setup for me to talk about donating sperm, but, while you can make around $50 per specimen, they don't just take your seed sight unseen. you've got a 6 month testing period before payment, so if you plan on going to a better bowl next year, time to cancel a redtube sesh or two and start making plans.

Someone may tell you a payday loan is the way to go, to which any financial adviser will tell you "got for it, it's a great deal, especially if you're Ben Gooding."

If you're a former athletic director looking to make the most of your buyout of approximately $25,660.40 per month, you could use this to buy 242 sideline reserved tickets or 364 corner seats (yes, we are ignoring taxes on the income and fees on the purchase for this math.) It's a unique way to thank almost every individual donor from the past 16 years of UNT athletics - not to mention a fun chance to play Santa right around the holidays!

My daughter's school seems to be swimming in money as they just cleared more than $35K from a freaking cookie dough fundraiser. Could we do GMG boxtops or hold a few bake sales outside the pit to help some folks out grimacing at these massive ticket prices?

I guess I don't get the whole "rematch" thing.   We play conference mates every year.  That's what builds animosity and eventually rivalries.   The Cowboys play everyone in their division twice a year and may face them again in the playoffs.  Is the second game or the playoff game less interesting?  What's better than a game 7 in a championship series?  Is it boring because the same teams have just played six times?

We need to show up, every game, no matter who we play.  I'm sure Army must be thrilled to play North Texas (again!).  Let's beat them in the Bowl game and then again next season.   Let's get it to the point where there's a little animosity between the teams (even though it's kind of hard to have any animosity for the service academies).

I plan to be there, but I will say I have my doubts we come close to 36k this time.

I am really hoping the reduced interest due to day, opponent, losing record etc. is counterbalanced by The Wren Baker being in charge of spreading the word instead of the RV.

Judging by the numerous times BioLife has solicited plasma from my daughter before she even had a "teen" in her age, I'd think this is a solid way to get ticket money.

Quote

These centers that buy plasma all have their own prices. On average, people earn $20 or $25 for their first week, while they may earn up to $30 to $45 for their second week.

Once again, this all depends upon the center. BioLife pays a person around $260 a month for their plasma.

Caveats:

I couldn't get the actual BioLife website to appear

You have to prove that you're in good health and have a diet consistent with someone who gives plasma.  I don't know that a case of beer per day fits the bill.

Benefits:

Hey!  Free cookies!

Chicks dig minute scars under taped on balls of cotton.

Failing that, there's always this tried and true method:

Yes, sounds reasonable make bad financial decisions to "support your school"  The schools will get more financial benefit from direct donation to the school or attending a game in Apogee.  The bulk of the ticket revenue goes to the Bowl Committee.  UNT might be in the black for HoD Bowl trips but a lot of schools loose money on Bowl trips.  I am going to take my $50 and donate it to the MGC.

Who says you need to spend $50? They're playing in a place that seats over 90k people.  There'll be plenty of ads on Groupon and/or Living Social that'll probably have tickets for $15-20 at most.  You can take the trains right directly to fair park which is another incentive for a lot of people. I don't see how this is a bad financial decision but you support North Texas football...a history of losing and being bad.  Yet they're invited to a bowl game right in our backyard you're bitching about making unsound financial decisions in attending the game?  All good man I don't judge but to each their own.

Surely doesn't have to be $50 since I imagine there will be deals for much cheaper. Also depending on what you do I'm sure you could even do close to a half day of work and get to work super early and still leave half hour or so before game time and make it.  You're right this is all about effort and wanting to do it.

Bottom line is most who want to be there, especially locals, will find a way. Those who do not want to be there will find something to complain about.

I don't see how we settled.  If I understand correctly, we were neither given our choice of bowls nor the choice of opponent.  Our choice was to accept the invitation or not.  I can think of a number of reasons to accept.  First, it is a reward for those seniors that stuck it out after the miserable fiasco of last year.  Second, it gives all of our younger guys additional practice and development time.  There are other pluses and some minuses, but I see these two as paramount.
